Krandall

trying to get a list of things I need for sure

1 - timing chain

1 - lower timing gear

1 - set of timing chain sliders

my question is look at this pic:

http://www.motosport.com/atv/oem-parts/YAMAHA/2006/RAPTOR%20700/?modelyearid=2187&typeid=2&makeid=105&makeyearid=235

on the camshaft. there's 2 pins sticking out (one right and one left)

if both of those came out.. am I f*cked and need a new cam?  :'(

i dont think they can just come out. pressed in i think. times the cam gear to the cam. im all worried now since i just finished puting on a head.

Spartan

Just make sure you use loctite on the cam bolts and you won't have a problem...It's a mistake that anyone can make, and at least it didn't end up a lot worse.

Krandall

I'm going to call Web tomorrow and get their thoughts on the cam.

I thought the lower timing gear was on the crankshaft? You need a new crankshaft?

Krandall

Yeah, it's pressed onto the crankshaft and cannot order just the timing gear.

I'm only basing it off of what I can order for OEM parts. And it doesn't appear you can order just the gear assembly separate.

Sir, grab a +5 HR crank if you HAVE to change the lower timing gear. My philosophy is that, if it breaks, it MUST be improved.

If you chicken out and go stock stroke my old crank is always FS. Id say 25-35 hours on it. Worked when I pulled it out, probably still works after its sat in a box for 9 months.
