Like it says, I am gonna try and quit. I gots me my nicotine patches, and about a billion packs of bubble gum . I decided to wait until Jan 25th to try to quit because we have the state dart championships the 21st to the 24th, and I know if I go there without smoking for only 2 weeks I'll cave and smoke (basically drunk from Thursday at noon until you wake up Sunday , good times).

It is gonna be hard for me since my job stresses me the f out, but I am ready to quit. I had my birthday on Sunday, realized I have been smoking for almost 7 years, and decided it is time to do something about it. Also thought about the money I have spent, pack a day for 7 years at we will say 4.50 a pack for the difference in prices between then and now, $11,497.50. I have paid roughly that much for something to kill me? SMART! That would almost pay for my truck....... stupid.

I have tried once before and failed miserably, made it 2 days woohoo . But at that time I didn't really WANT to quit, I just knew I should. Now I want to quit, so I think that will help me a lot.

So any other quitters on here that have any advice for what worked and didn't? Any hints and tricks?!  :help:

I used chantix and it worked very well...  However, when we started building our new house, I got stressed out and went right back to smoking after nearly two years of not smoking... I plan on using chantix again once the house is complete... Its kinda pricey depending on what kind of insurance you have, but I can assure you, you will have no desire to smoke after a week of taking it... Good luck bro, it is the best thing you can do for you health and well being....

After 20 years I just went cold turkey. You gotta be strong that's all. I quit on memorial day last year. Then I quit smoking weed back in november. I did it cold turkey, the really wanting to quit is the differince. You're setting yourself up for failure. By saying I'm gonna TRY and quit smoking. You should be telling yourself I'm gonna quit smoking not try but I am quitting. Good luck bro you gotta be stronger than the drug.

I have read about chantix before. My company will cover any costs of it workers quitting smoking so that should help me out. The higher ups really nag us about it at work.

I will check into that stuff. Am I remembering right when I think I read you have to have a prescription for chantix or something like that?

do it because you wanna, not because you think you should. +1 spidey, gotta be as strong as or stronger than the drug.

+1 on the paying over 10 grand to kill you faster. :( had that same discovery one day. :(

close to 7 years now I have not smoked.  FOr me, it was a life change. Lost my job and had a baby on the way. Scary, but those two things took me out of my routine, and made not smoking more bearable I guess.

My quit day. My dad (RIP) handed me his bottle of Zyban. I had no clue how to use it, other that he said it calms the craving. THat week, my buddy was moving across town in Lincoln, so I took a pill, jumped in the car and drove 5 hours with no smokes to help him move. Seemed to work alright, til I got there. My buddy who had quit due to a cancer scare with Zyban, had started again after beating cancer. (fyi, not lung cancer) I was like :wtf:  Then he tells me, you are not supposed to stop cold turkey. you are supposed to slowly stop smoking, then after a week or two, take two pills and barely smoke at all. Or then totally quit. So on the way home I smoked like a train
then the next day I smoked one in the morning, took the pill late morning, then had another smoke after work. I repeated this for a week. Then took the pill every morning and evening for 2 weeks and stopped smoking completely, then one pill at lunch for a week, then DONE! CIgars have helped when drinking with friends. Worst time for me was at a blues bar. SO I ran down the street, and bought some cigars. Not for the nicotine, just the mental motions of smoking. worked.

there have been a few bad cravings here and there. WHile drinking. Hanging out and riding quads. I have had approx 3 cigs since I quit. The last tasted so horrible, it will be the last   I coughed like I was in jr high stealing Dad's lucky strikes again

I did notice that after about 3 months of quitting, my truck stank so bad, I had to steamclean it top to bottom. headliner and all to get the stink out. Strange the things you will notice. Even my taste in food has changed a little

huge good luck to you kd!!!!! not always easy......but totally worth it.

My advice is will-power. I know that's not what you're looking for but it's all that I have for you. I just decided that it was stupid and that it was time to quit wasting money and my health away.

Yep it's gotta be something you really want to do. And you're gonna be tested, just when you are think of why you're doing it again. Or come online and vent weather soneones here to respond or not. That's how I got thru my weed addiction over on RF I started a thread call Help, support with my problem. And alot of people chimed in saying good job and such helped. I couldn't really sleep for a few weeks, sometimes I'd post at 3:30 in the morning but everytime I felt the urge to twist one up I'd post in that thread or read peoples reply's. And I'd be right back to wanting to quit again.

I went cold turkey Oct 22, 2004. BUUUUUUUUUT I wanted to quit, absolutely hated everything about it. You know its bad when you repulse yourself. I remember there seemed to be steps in over coming it. The first 3 days was rough as hell, that was the first step. By the 4th day I could tell the cravings had died somewhat. The next step was 3 weeks. I was still struggling at 3 weeks, not like the first 3 days, but in a way that I avoided people I knew that smoked. The final step, was the 3 month time period. After about 3 months I had ZERO urges. After I made it that far smoking seemed to disappear from my life. What I mean is, it has got to the point to where I can't even remember smoking until I see an old picture of me and a cigarette or when the topic comes up. I would say good luck, but it's not luck... it's all in your head. Depends on if you want to quit or if you have to convince yourself you want to quit. Me, I wanted to and I was going to, I had no doubt in my mind.

Both you are absolutely right it's not gonna be an easy fight. You just gotta fight thru it when you get an urge just fight back with you're strongest weapon. Weather that be coming on here and just start typing to vent or taking you're quad out for a ride you gotta find your weapon and use it against the drug. You're anti-drug of choice I'm trying to say find a good habbit to replace the bad one with. Some people can do it no problem others it's alot harder. I wish I could say it was easy but I don't know how it will afect you.
