Well, it's been 1 month, i took a ride in a deep river and my engine breath some river water.

No big deal I told myself, but yesterday I wanted to fix my brake, so I took a little ride as usual, but I felt my engine seize.. But it continued running... " Ah... maybe it is still cold" but about 100ft later... my rear wheel just blocked...

Now, after about 4 hour, the engine is all teared up, my crankshaft is seized, my piston is scored and so is the cylinder, but not that much. I think this part didn't like the water of the river and its mud.

Let's get more technical now. I know I need a crankshaft and a piston, maybe a cylinder if it can't be honed nice. I looked at the stroker crankshaft and thought it might be the best time to upgrade BUT, I MUST keep the stock exhaust due to the law around here... Will it be damageable to have a stock exhaust and a strocker kit with HC piston and hotcam stg3 ?

I'm afraid it will cause too much restriction in the exhaust...

What's your thought about that ?

a Stroker Crank will be ok. Not detrimental to the quad.  You will not see the most benefit of any of these mods because of the stock exhaust, and it might be tough trying to find a PC3 Map.  If you have a dyno available nearby, it will most likely be the best answer if you decide to go ahead and mod it.

Otherwise simply keeping the OEM size crank and piston, etc will be much simpler just to get it running again.

What are the regs for exhaust by you?  are they simply sound (db) rating limits?

vreds

They just look if it  look like  it is the stock pipe... no much sound test...

Do I need to have a special piston with the stroker crank, or the stock one can be fine ?

If you go +8 on a stroker then yeah it'll require a special offset piston, but I am using a +5 hot rods crank with a stock bore and stroke type piston (11:1 CP)...

If you need a stock crank, I still have mine BUT it has 2 gouges in one side from someone using bolts to push it off...I don't know if it affects it a lot but I would have it trued if you want to use it...If you do, send me a PM and we'll work out something.

Troy

If I was you I would replace the crank with a hotrods +5 just because they are as cheap as a stock replacement and seem to be very reliable.  While you are doing that you might as well put at least an 11:1 piston in it to pep it up while still running pump gas.  If you can swing a quite exhaust of you choice and an intake life will be good, your bike will run WAY better than stock as an added benefit.  You will need a fuel controller if you change exhaust and intake, you might be able to get away without one just doing the crank and piston but that's a maybe at best.  I'd go ahead and put a hotcam in it too if you can find a cheap one.  Replacing stock parts with stock parts sucks IMHO.  You could keep an eye out on the for sale ads on these forums and find most of the stuff you would need for dirt cheap and have a very nice upgraded engine for a little more than replacing the stock parts and have a much funner quad to ride.

Ranger

I agree with Troy...If you're gonna replace stuff especially a crank, I would at least upgrade it a bit...A Hot rods +5 can be had for around 280-300 bucks max, and I've been seeing plenty of cams and pistons for sale around 100 bucks.

Can these cylinder be honed a little ?

yeah you can hone them, as long as the nikasil isn't chipped it'll be ok, if it's chipped I'd guess you're gonna run ino some trouble eventually.

vreds

alright... here comes the pictures  :(

My parted out rappy

Piston

Crankshaft
I didn't have time to split case.. But the piston is "floating" on this picture because of the seized rod.

Cylinder
I did hone it a little bit, but their still some mark on it, but I don't feel them with my fingernail...

I don't know if I would run the cylinder looking like that, hard to really tell from the pic but it looks like the nikisil is missing in spots...I would renikisil it or have a sleeve put in...As for splitting the case, good luck with that, for some reason mine didn't want to come apart easily...and if you need a crank splitter tool, hit me up and I'll loan you mine for just shipping cost

vreds

I splited the case fairly easily. I just took my soft face hammer and 2 minute later it was in two piece.

Now the dilemma begin..

Good luck man, haha, glad the case came apart easily for you, it took 5 hours for me...

vreds

I've made my mind.

It'll be a hot rod +5 and i'll keep it stock for the rest.. I took the cylinder to my uncle, who rebuilted many, many engine and he told me that it's not the best, but will be fine... So there they'll go. No big deal to change these later, just want it runnin' right now...  :hammer:

Where's the best place to get these crank ?

I would check Tech Quad Shop. He usually has the best price and where I got mine.
