Right now I have mine zip tied but on my trucks I had em bolted and never really had one of them go out...One actually outlasted the truck (traded it in) and I sold em to my buddy who got like another 8 months out of them.

Is anyone having a problem with only one light lighting up? Who do I contact to see what the problem could be. They both light up when I got them but went out the other day and now only one lights up. I haven't even got to ride it yet. :(

Are you turning the motor on then firing them up? The battery drains pretty quick with them on and when it did that on mine only one would stay on til I got it to recharge...

Blair

well i got mine mounted tonight, i havent fired em up yet... couldnt find any alcohol (other than the beer i was drinking) to wipe the bulbs off with.  here is how i mounted the ballasts, the right one is mounted to the radiator mounting bolt.

i mounted the left one to the fuel tank mounting bolt.

i did run a couple of zipties around the bracket and the ballast to hopefully hold the ballasts to the bracket. i also ran a ziptie through the bottom mounting hole and ran it to the frame to hopefully hold it to the frame a little more securely.

hopefully this works... it seems like everything fits... ill see once i get the plastics back on.

what do you guys think???

Same thing happened to me. My battery charger would go from 97% charged to 60% by the time they power up completely. Then one shuts off or they do a techno trance effect and one stays on at or below 60% power. Only takes 10-20secs. Its definetly a motor "on" mod.

Blair, I like your idea. I honestly didnt think they would fit back there. And you've given me something to think about with the headers, I honestly dont believe ill have any problems because the headers dont generate enough heat to damage them unless the headers actually touch the cases, which they wont. And if worse comes to worse ill use some foil tape like is on the rear plastic by the exhaust to dissipate the heat across the area and stop them from heating up. Problem solved!

.....and if it gets really bad ill wrap my headers  :)

Blair

alk after i posted that about the header i went out and looked where you put em... i think that would be an awesome place for em, i was honestly just too lazy to try to fab up a bracket to put em there (maybe this winter if i tear the quad down)

and now that i loked i dont think you would have an issue with heat.

as for where i put them it isnt the best place and the brackets had to be bent the right way to just make em fit... ill let you know how they work after my first ride (next weekend)

That should be ok to mount there but I like the other guys better. I am not a member on your forum and see somebody is having trouble with his lights. Have him give me a call to discuss. (408)421-6359

Just to let everyone know about HID. The initial start up requires 24k volts to ignite the bulbs. The ballasts are designed to shut down when they detect low voltage, so as not to burn up. The Raptor's electrical system is not that strong and some Raptors will have the symptoms that he desribed occur. The work around is to power up the ballasts through a relay, which pulls the power straight off the battery. This helps out with the start up and allows both lights to ignite more consistently.

It is funny when you read how people associate this common HID problem with cheap Chinese crap. The opposite is true because the ballast is actually working as designed. The cheap ballasts would not have an internal shut off with low voltage and would actually burn out much faster.

Anyway, just let anybody know that if they need a relay, get ahold of me and I will ship them one if they paypal me $10 to cover shipping and my cost on the relay. Thanks and enjoy. My paypal address is hondajimz@yahoo.com

Good to hear, I have some scrap pieces I can fab up when the motor goes back in, so that I can tell if I have the right fit. Im glad the spacing looks good, I was getting worried!

ok so what I need is a relay? I always have the bike runnig when trying to fire up. the first couple of times they started right up. now only one comes on. now how hard is it to put in the relay? is it as easy as the hid kit?

Contact the seller, he has a jumper that will fix it for you at no charge. Tell him I sent you, no worries. It's rare that it happens, but it's a simple fix. If you have any problems let me know.

thanks larmy.... now that i have put the extra zip ties (holding the ballast to the bracket, and the bracket to the frame they are in there damn solid)... i spent probably 45 mins to an hour with a ballast sticking it in various places on the front of my quad trying to find a good hole that it fit in.  those 2 spots seem to be the best without major fab work.  i think i may do what alkire is thinking if i tear down the bike this winter...

pics of the lights lit up....

Fire man, Jim gave us his number in the email he sent to me, give him a call, i am pretty sure he will be more than happy to help you out.
