Hi fellers and ladies(peels)

anywhoo

I am a 21 year old man living in my parents house.

we work together doing family business and what not blah blah.

When i purchased my quad i would have NEVER got it if i asked mom first because she thinks its too dangerous and a family friend passed away on one before (may he RIP)

so i just bought it brought it home and she eventually got over it..

NOW i am looking @ a bike and have been over the past years. An R6 to be exact but SHE IS WAY AGAINST IT!
i mean i am 21 now, im way mature and have been working for my parents since 15...

she just goes nuts even when i bring it up to the point where she will tear up...

I am old enough to make my own decisions but at the same time i am in her house and need to respect her.

WTF DO I DO!:(

PS the deal on this r6 2008 is smoking... only 6500

Listen to your mother...honor her and respect her, you have the rest of your life to get material posessions.

Exactly....it sounds like they do a bunch for you, i wouldn't go defying them now, also at 21 your ass needs to be out the house.  Ha ha ha, jk.

^^^^ Momma's Boy^^^^

And for what it's worth, you'd be much less concerned with Mom's judgement if you were sporting your own place.

Life's been about making decisions and learning from them (both good and bad) IMO.  You can only learn by having your own expirences, not by other making choice for you.

Make your choice, be safe, and yes, always respect "the mom"

As long as you are under her roof you will never hear the end of it.  Same thing with a buddy of mine.  When he lived at home, his mom hated his bikes.  Once he moved out it didn't bother her as much.  She still worried about him but she didn't lay in bed at night, listening for him to pull up.

I'm leaning more to her side.  As long as it's her place you gotta give a little.  You got away with the quad, let her win the bike battle.  Once you get your own place it's all you.

First, you're 21...its time to move out!  Unless you want to be that creepy guy with 10 cats in your moms basement.  Second, as said before, you might want to check out insurance...I paid 225 a month for mine when I was 20.

insurance is going to be around 200 a month... i can afford it

anyways as far as moving out. My cutlure is very home orianted until marriage. I won't be married for another 3-5 years so until then i will be home.

i save money this way and its just the way every chaldean (catholic arab) does it.
and i love my current house, the basement is decked out just for me:)

Hefe

has this been brought up yet?

Do you have any experience on a street bike?
any on a rocket?
Cycle endorsement?
Cycle safety course?
have you priced Insurance?
do you have a group to ride with?

all important questions to ask yourself
if you have never ridden.. (or barely ridden) you are a damn fool for jumping on an R6
if you just took the test to get your cycle endorsement and not the class, you failed yourself
the class is great.. and a ton of fun!
how much is Insurance?
that $6500 bike is no longer a great deal if the insurance is a hundred a month! (or more)
(full coverage on my R6 was $300 a year)

as for a group to ride with..
just like a quad, rockets get boring to ride alone
they are not the best commuter bike
not overly comfy, small gas tanks, etc..
riding alone is not safe either ..
DSB has allot of "group rides"
http://www.detroitsportbikes.com/
I have rolled with these guys a bit
there are some other groups out there.. but DSB is good

review..
if this is your first real bike.. PASS
we don't need another squid with little to no experience on a bike he can't handle
and should NEVER be on
get a nice Shadow or something..
learn the ropes
learn how to know if "that jackass" is gonna pull out in front of you
learn how to read the road
the animals.. (squirrels can actually kill you!)
the clouds

once you are good and safe, then get a real bike
like an R6 or an R1..
you will fall in love with the way it handles

by then , maybe your mom will trust you enough
she will always worry, but like my mom.. she knows that I KNOW my ability
and she knows I will never push my bike BEYOND my ability

my riding group fizzeld out, so I sold my R6, but I might get another if the group builds back up
for now I will ride my old 750 and enjoy it

there might be a motard in my future too!

Hefe

wow.. 200 a month for INS..

I did at that age. In retrospect, I had no business riding one then. I would have ended up being scraped off the pavement somewhere. Insurance COmpanies aren't stupid.

Great post about abilities Hefe.

I know a girl who was saying she was afraid to take the riding test. I told her she had no business riding. Practice, then get license, then a faster bike.

No offence Hefe, but my first bike was a CBR600. Had it for 6 months and got a R1. I really think that having experience on ANY motorized vehicle (other than a car) really helps you make smart decisions on bikes.

I know this is stupid, but I never took a motorcycle safty course or had my endorcement. I always told my self I would go take the test, but never did.

Riding with a group might always be smart. There was a couple of groups I would ride with here in Omaha and all they did was ride around doing wheelies and stoppies. If you do find a group to ride with DONT get pressured into playing their game. I almost lost my life that way.

I really enjoyed riding with the girlfriend  out in the country at night. Put someone you care about on the back and see how differently you drive.
Just a little 81hp trail bike.

Hefe

just so we are clear..
I am 39, been riding bikes since age 10 (ish)
Raced Moto-x for years
my first "car" was a 73 Suzuki GT750 (3 years with no car.. just the bike.. In MI.. in the winter.. not fun)
I have ridden my bikes all over this beautiful Country & Canada (Catskill Mountains are breathtaking on a bike)
I have as many miles as most "hard" bikers
and I have said to myself (while driving my R6 at 140+)
"man, I have no right to own something so fast!"
"goddamn.. I am a total idiot!"

but it sure was fun!

and YES, I have crashed (*cough* 3 times *cough*)
1 time on my 95 Daytona
and twice on my 2003 R6, but never the 2006 R6
one time was with my (now) wife.. not good

at least you openly admit that you did it wrong and don't try to defend it..

around here they can impound and take you to jail for no endorsement
they take it pretty seriously

ERMAHGERD, around here they just give you a fine if anything. Usually over look it.

Yes it was stupid, but I would go back to change it for anything. You gotta be young, dumb, and full of cum for a while....lol. I was just saying that having experience on a ATV does help.
