I'm with Hefe all the way!

I'm 42, have been riding since I was 8.
Maybe you have some bike experience, at 21 I bought an RG500 (4cyl 2 stroke rocket) but had been riding on the road since 16.
It was the equivalent to an R1 or GSXR1000 in todays market, but far less forgiving!

I have crashed everything from a 125 commuter to a GPZ900.

I don't care how skilled you are, it's not "if you will crash" but "when you will crash"

Some of my prangs have been my own fault, & most of those I walked away from.
The 2 worst were:
1/ Doing 50kph (30mph) & getting hit from the side by a car running a stop sign (in a 50kph zone, round a blind corner) doing 80kph
4 1/2 months in plaster (right thru summer)

2/ Racing the RG in a club event & highsiding at 170kph (110mph) lots of injuries!

On the road I have ridden hundreds of thousands of miles in all kinds of weather (even snow)
Will never give it up while I can still walk, but I have mellowed my approach somewhat!

I ride a Suzuki TL1000S, not because it is the fastest thing out there or the best handling, (to be sure it is far from either)
I ride it because it is fun & i get this stupid grin from ear to ear just starting it!

Take your time, learn on something slow, get to know the roads & the way that cages drivers just "don't see you"
There will be other hot deals on bikes like R6's, because someone didn't take the time to learn, scared themselves silly, or crashed it & couldn't face getting back on.

Finally, don't buy it until you've ridden it, are you comfortable on it?
I wouldn't buy one, they kill my wrists & knees (designed for someone weighing about 150lb & 5'6")

Is there any sign of accident damage/re-painting/mods
if so walk away!

Has it been well maintained
These are an expensive engine to re-build!

Have someone else with bike experience check it over with you, preferably a "tame" bike mechanic that you can trust.
Just cos you have the cash, doesn't mean you want to throw it away!

& how much did you say insurance was???
Add the price of Leathers or Cordura Riding gear with body armour biult in
A Back protector
Gloves
Boots
A Really good helmet (Shoei or Arai would me my reccommendation)

Best of luck
