Ran into a problem with the chain and swinger today.

I have a +4 Lonestar swinger, anyhow I put on a new chain. I put on 112 links, it felt kind of loose, but when I measured out 110 it was way to tight. Well after about a dozen passes it loosened way up, so I went back to camp, took out 2 links, and s**t. It was to tight. It's a new primary drive o-ring.  I'm hoping it will stretch out some so I can take the 2 links back off. Anybody else ever run into this. I've swapped out about 20-30 chains and this was the first time I ever ran into this problem. Any ideas out there?

I put a cheaper chain on when I did my swinger and had the same problem.  It just kept stretching and stretching. Ruined a whole weekend at the dunes.  After it finished streching, I noticed that some of the links were rock solid with no flex between them.  That was the last time I bought a cheap chain.  Not sure if yours was a cheapie or not btu give it some time to stretch out and then make sure you check it well and inspect it.

sometimes, with after market swingarms, the carrier rotates in the swingarm when using the rear brakes.

even if the pinch bolts are tightened.

for a chain to stretch that bad, it gotta be made of rubber ???

The chain hasn't stretched at all. The minute I put it on, I knew something was up. It's a primary drive x-ring. I typed o-ring earlier, but I just checked ... it's an x-ring.  ??? I wonder how that happened, I usually buy o-ring.... anyhow.

Good call on the rotating carrier, Tony. That had to have been what happened. I went out to the garage earlier and took out another 2 links again to see if stretched enough, but hell no it didn't.

PLD, the first time I ever bought a chain, it was a $20 special. Ruined the whole damn weekend. I've gone o-ring ever since.

It's not the type of ring it is.. I promise. I've used nothing but x ring.. The difference, X has 2 contact points on the chain pin to keep dirt out vs o-ring being just one. looks somethin like this posted below.. hard to draw it.. but don't blame it on the type of ring

when I ran my last D.I.D chain, It had stretched 3 different times the first day of riding, after that it was fine.

Just remember, there is some break in for them new. No matter the brand.

im running an ek x-ring and it hasnt stretched hardly at all.

when i put my chains on i run the chain (full length) around the sprockets and and pull it tight and mark the spot with a sharpie where i need to cut it, instead of measuring...

That's the best way you can do it. My newest chain, I haven't cut yet, is an RK chain. We'll see how this holds up.

with the +4 a 15 -41 would fit all the way down to a 15/38 which was a little loose this is the crossover where u have to take a link out ... ive made the switch to a HONDA patter rear sprocket hub to allow smaller rear sprockets then the 36

I just installed a DID ERT2 Chain on my +5 swinger, 117 links and it streched just a little, I installed it tight and it streched to within spec's, have not had to readjust it yet...this is after a day of drag racing.
