Cam Test-x4, Web4, 5050, HDD custom grind

Troy:
Sorry for the bad quality pic, I'm going to the dyno to get the run files when I get time.  I'd like to throw out a huge thanks to Adam and Bruce at MotoAdventure Kawasaki in Loveland Colorado for hooking me up with the dyno to do this test, great guys and the best local shop around for all you Northern Colorado guys on here.  Big thanks to Daniel at High Desert Dyno for supplying the cams and a TON of background help and knowledge.  I started out with the x4 cam on curve 2 on the dynatek ignition, this is the bottom baseline.  The green line in the middle represents the same setup tuned in for the fci intake and the ignition custom tuned.  The FCI alone was worth 4 horse peak and 5 horse over rev, the dynatek made no power on the up curve but was worth an additional 5 horse at over rev, for a total of 10 horse gain at redline, not bad for starters.  We know Daniel's 5050 makes great power and torque on stockbore and stroke builds, so we thought we'd see what it does on a little stroked and bored motor with high compression.  It runs out almost identical to the x4 in horsepower over time runs, has a touch more low end and pretty close on the top.  The 5050 is also about 10% more economical on fuel according to the map.  Both cams rev very fast, I'd take either one of these cams in a heartbeat and I don't think I could tell the difference between them in my bike.  We put the custom grind cam in next and the Web4 last.  We had sniffer problems on the custom grind and didn't realize it and get it fixed until the Web4 went in, so we got a little fat on the bottom with the custom grind.  I think with the fat spot out of it the custom grind is going to be right there with the Web4, they have almost an identical curve.  The Web4 and custom grind both made peak power at about 7500 rpm and carried it out better than the x4 and 5050 on the top.  The x4 and 5050 made peak at about 6800.  The Web4 makes more power and torque from about 5200 all the way to redline, remembering that the custom will probably be right there with it.  All of the cams worked great, and I'd run any of them.  The Web4, 5050, and custom grind cams were all tested the same night after work so it was a bolt in and quick run test, getting each cam close and moving on.  No cams were degreed in as we didn't have time for that and most people that buy a cam are just going to slap it in and run it anyway.  DISCLAIMER:  This test was done by a redneck (me) on my own bike, individual results may vary.  In no way do I gain or lose from doing this test as I had the time to do it and we had a great time tipping back some coldies and playing with Adam's new toy.  My build consists of:

Racer's Edge cnc +1 ferrea valves and springs
RE CP 13:1 piston
cylinder shaved for corrected deck height
Barker inframes
pc3 Dynatek programmed ignition
+5 HotRods crank straight out of the box
KDS +2 throttle body
KDS evac valve
FCI intake
This test was conducted at over 5000 feet elevation so the numbers will reflect that.  I wish they were higher, lol.

Web 4  power=70.92 Torque=55.58
custom power=68.99 Torque=53.28
x4        power=68.48 Torque=54.85
5050    power=67.52 Torque=54.67

Nice work troy  Its nice to finally see the comparison of all these cams from a neutral party on a neutral dyno 8) Would have been nice to see an RJ cam thrown in there. This will help alot of people for the future i believe on deciding which cam to go with.

NaturalRaptor:
Thanks for posting Troy, it is neat to see these compared. I just got all my stuff back from RE with an X4 and can not wait to get it all back together!

Troy:
Keep in mind guys the custom grind (5150) was pig rich and will probably be right there with the Web4, maybe better on the top.  Devin, we'll eventually test an RJ for fun down the road.  Natural, you're going to love your RE setup, I remember the first time I rode mine when I got it back, it was an absolute animal

Krandall:
Great info Troy!!! Like you said, and I'll reitterate. Doens't look like you can really go wrong with any of those bad boys!!! thank you for taking the time to do this test and sharing the results with us!
