To some people this fish may not be that special, but for us, this is one of them once a year catfish we catch (they are usually half the size)

It was only 7 pounds, but that is a pretty good cat rod and reel fishing for the rivers around here! We are gonna try running diddy poles this summer so hopefully that will get us some WAY bigger then this one!

Krandall

I caught that guy on the Des Moines river in Central Iowa. We were canoeing and stopped on a sand bar to stretch and crap (not literally crap, but we could have I guess). I was sitting there just drinking a good old blue yummy (Busch light) and my pole suddenly slammed down off my Y stick and slid into the river. You cant see it in the pic but my pants and feet are soaked from just below the knees from when I had to go into the river after pole!    When that happened I almost did crap!

And peels, how would you like this one swimming up your wang! I bet you would notice it without having to pee first!

A: Love Busch Light. You must be an Iowa boy. Sounds damned good right about now.

B: Was the Des Moines pretty high? Rest of the rivers are way up.

C: Ask Preddy about animals swimming up your genitals. Spent many hours perfecting the art.

Busch Light is my main beer! The DM river was fairly high when we were out. Not flooding by any means but higher then normal for this time of year. Preddy preddy preddy, we are gonna have to have peels teach you a thing or two!

Nice fish. Over here on the missouri we catch 8-10lbs all day on average. My biggest was a 25lb flat head. Not the greatest eating.

You need to come down and fish the Arkansas River......or our area lakes.

It's very common to catch 75-100 flatheads, 25-50lb blues, 10-15 lb channel cats. You'll catch the blues and flats on shad or cut shad (bait fish) and the channels on anything that stinks (liver, etc). I have caught a blue on a spinner bait after a rain storm once......It hit hard!!!! I couldn't believe it.

In my opinion, the blues are the best to eat. Flatheads 20lbs and under would be second. I don't eat channel cat. Too fishy tasting. A 20 lb blue will feed 10 easy.

Funny you mention the spinner bait. I cought the biggest catfish I've ever cought on a spinner bait. It was right after a rain and HOLLY HELL did it hit hard.

Are you guys allowed to trot line or jug fish?

We take old bleach bottles, add some nylon line, hook, and bait. I spray paint the tops in florescent colors so they are easier to spot. I dump them up river, and go fish for striper for a while in a tributary. I give it a few hours and go check them. I've had some catfish on so big they take the jugs down and make them hard to find.....They pop back up here and there. It's wild!!!

Fished on it many times with a guy named Bobby Parker. You might know him he lives in Keota.
