painting wheels?

wil spray paint hold up on the stock wheels?  i repainted my control arms and bumper and am planning on doing my nerf bars and my wheels
if so is there any paint that works better on the aluminum?    i cant afford new whleels right now and am going for a differnt look!

I painted my wheels for the dunes. No issues. If they chip, grab another rattlecan.

Spray paint doens't hold well on aluminum. you will need to find a primer first and lay that on, then paint. I had my wheels painted, I had to use an epoxy style primer though prior to the base coat to make the paint stick.

correct, sorry. SHould have given more info. Clean and sand the crap out of the stock aluminum rims. Primer once first. Be prepared to touch it up now and then. no biggie.

I used a brake caliper paint without any primer and my sand wheels still look sweet

good idea,  ive seen that paint before i think its about 10 dollars a can?    in the long run was it still holding?

so far so good, had about 5-6 walden trips on them, few scratches but nothing major.  And touch ups are always just a rattle away

I was lazy and just bought some spray in truck bedliner in a can. It looked good for about a day of riding the woods, then got worse after it met the hose. Now they have brought themselves all the way back to silver lol.

But i didnt sand or prime anything.

I would think straight cheap spray without sanding or priming would be fine for dunes and thats it, otherwise forget about it. I speak from expiriance lol

so i took a little bit of all your advice and i did the front wheels and dust shields last night,
i painted the wheels and control arms and bumper black and the dust shields dark blue(same as the plastic)

i sanded them lightly with fine steel wool then sprayed a light coat of metal rust oleum industrial grade primer
i let it set for about 2 hours(dinner at outback,  it was lovely..haha)   then re primed a normal coat and let it set for half an hour.
im not usually this patient!   then i sprayed 2 coats of black 20 minutes apart let it dry for half an hour or so and put em on.

they look rad as hell and hopefully they will hold up!   im going to start the rear wheels today il probably do the nerf bars and grab bar too.
