A few years ago my wife Brandy had to have injections into her spine to correct a nreve problem similar to what you were talking about.
She had a total of 6 injections at a cost of $1500 per. Luckily, this corrected her problem, and she did not have to go under the knife. The proceedure she was going to have done was experimental, and insurance would not pay for it. If involved going into the disc, heating up the inside of it with a hot electrode to shrink the bulge.
