Need ideas on mounting oil pressure gauge!

On my Old DS730 I simply put a TEE in the oil pressure sensor line and ran it to a mechanical oil pressure gauge.

On the 700 (no sensor that I know of?) I need to find a place to tap for oil pressure. My buddy had the same dilemna on his LTR and he tapped the oil filter cover. It seems to be working well. I just put a billet cover on my 700 so I am debating if I want to tap the cover. Sure better to tap a replaceable cover than the case BUT I am considering doing the case on top of the filter housing. This way I can control where the shavings go and make sure they are all cleaned out. Plus it wont be sticking out the side and I wont have to worry about kicking it out of the cover.  I was worried about how much clearance I have with the filter being in there, but on my buddies the fitting he put into the tapped hole only sticks out of the cover by about 1/16 of an inch. Surely there is at minimum 1/4 inch between the case and the filter (Havnt taken the time to pull the cover to look as I just did an oil change).

Anyone know a better/simpler method of installing the gauge? I had considered trying to tap the banjo bolt that runs from the right side case up to the top of the head, but the banjo bolt is not big enough to allow me to tap the top of the bolt.

I am planning to mount the gauge on the left fender (same position as the reverse switch). The gauge is about 1 1/4 inch so it should look pretty balanced and also be pretty well protected since I still have full plastics.

Any input?

hmm, I've never even thought about running an oil pressure guage.. this could be one of those "needed" items... especially after seeing what can happen to a quad when the oil pump fails (Sorry MD :( )

this is a good idea ill take mesurements tonight i think there is lile 1/8 inch you could tap into wonder where we  could mount guage though

I'd tap the cover. Then, if I decided the gauge idea was reactionary, and wanted to undo it, I could.

If you do want to go with a gauge why stop at the oil? Any why mount to a flexible plastic fender? There are other options: www.atvgauges.com (pic attached)

DL helped me with the idea of using a double banjo off the case, where the hard oil line runs oil to the top of the head. That means i will get a banjo bolt on one end and hopefully a 1/4 or 1/8 npt on the other end to fit into the mechanical gauge.

I plan to mount the gauge in the fender as it is pretty stiff there. Plus I dont have room anywhere up by the bars as i have a trailtech vapor already mounted.

Looks like these adaptors (either the second one down or the 3rd one down) will go from AN3 to 1/8 NPT. i just need to confirm my gauge is 1/8 NPT to make sure I can just screw the one end of the adaptor into the gauge.

One thing im wondering....the included line is only about 1/8 inch thick (OD), will running a stainless line (inside diameter probably 1/4 or so) affect the pressure reading? Or will it just fill up with oil and then the pressure will be the same.

Please keep us posted on this. I used the stainless line on my car and it had no adverse effects. The stainless would deffently be better than the tube.

LOL jake yes hopefully he can watch the gauge BEFORE oil starvation sets in and he blows his bearings again ;)

I will for sure keep you guys posted. I am just trying to determine what length line i would need to go from that hard oil line on the jug (right side of the machine) to a gauge mounted on the left front fender (same position as the reverse knob, but left side plastic). I am thinking 24" of line should be enough but might look for a 30" line to know i have some extra.

I will post pics once I get it all settled out and installed
