i need a quick answer on oil filters.....

where do you guys get your oil filters? i'm thinking there has got to be a cheaper place then the stealership. so where do you get them, what part number do you get, and how much do they cost?

I bought like 4 or so from an on-line vendor.  I can't even remember who it was.  Maybe RockyMountainATV while I was ordering other stuff.  I got the K & N brand.  I haven't researched price in a while, but RMATV's are HERE.

I always get mine from NAPA. Its only a couple of bucks. WIX filters are some of the best out there.

i have been using then since i got the quad and never a problem, i change my oil & filter after every other gas tank:)

Sometimes I go through 4 tanks a weekend, that means id have to change my oil 4 times in 2 weeks.

Apparently they went up in price...they used to (and I have seen it recently) list them for 27.99 with no reserve (and nobody usually bids) so you get it for 37.99 shipped. That is how i got mine. I originally bought a scotts stainless filter (Had one in my DS and loved it) for about 65...but then saw the ebay one for 27.99. I picked it up and returned the scotts because they filter the same micron level, and look literally identical (almost forgot which one was the scotts but it was labeled lol).

Save yourself in the long run on filter changes

so do you just leave it in there for a few changes or what? i would think that it would loud up with shit if you didnt' change it at least everyother time.

Well you can leave it in for 1-2 changes if you wish but I always pull it out and clean it (usually every change, but I dont change my oil after 5 horus like a lot of you lol). To clean it all you have to do rinse it in some gasoline and you will see some tiny particles come out.

Then just make sure the gasoline has completely dried before re-installing. I do the filter first so it has time to dry by the time i get the oil drained out.
