Low power demand, non-volatile for worry-free transport.  Besides, they don't expect you to put your entire media collection on the computer, you use it to plug in removable media.

yup, like a guy at work said, just buy a 32gig flash drive, and cary that around w/ ya. My woman just needs something to get on the net, not mass music storage like me :)
