Open up an etrade account.  DON'T INVEST YET.  Start putting some real time in keeping up on the market news.  I would challenge you to read the wall street journal everyday.  You will start to pick it up from there.  Once you feel ready, talk to some of us that have been in the game awhile and get your feet wet.  Just take it slow.  I know it takes time but your time will be more then paid off in the long term.

If he's as frugal as you say, he might be more open to investments than you think.  There are many different ways to invest, from extreme risk (Future,options) to fmore moderate (funds and bonds)

The funny thing is he drives 60 miles round trip to work. So its not really the expensive gas that gets him. I'm pretty sure he wont be to receptive (SP?) to me getting in the market. I dont really care, but just hate pissin off the old man. That is what my older brother is for
