Okay, so I'm looking for front rims that that have an offset of 4/1. I'm looking on RockymountainATV and I can't seem to find where it specifies what the offset is... :( any ideas?

Peelz

the el-cheapo steel ITP's have that offset..learned that by accident when I ordered front sand tires and they didn't match the rear.
Krandall: "peelz. I'll be real with you. As much as I hate on you for soccer, I really don't mind it"

I saw 4/1 offset wheels @ Dennis Kirk.  I'm sure shipping will be fast since they are almost your neighbors

Itp makes them in several configurations, including the GP, which I use, and standard and baja. Hiper offers it's front wheels in both 3+2 and 4+1.

Good move going with the 4+1's, not too many people fully realize the benefit of going to a shallow offset.

I just got front .190 douglas rims from rockymountain. You got me thinking?
I wonder what offset they are?

What benefits do you see?

I'll tell you why I'm looking. I am XC racing this year. was decided in about January. I've been talking to avid racers from my district and said that I should try my hardest to keep the raptor under 48"wide. (telling me this AFTER I got my ishock kit and dominatorII axle..)

I don't want to go back to a stock suspension so I figure the easiest way to skinny up the quad is to find a deeper offset rim.

Thoughts?

Good point BGJ, but as Krandall mentioned what benny's are there beyond narrowing  the quad?

Well for one it takes out a lot of the stress on all your tie rods, tie rod ends, spindles, lugs, and steering knuckles by reducing the amount of leverage on all these components. Just imagine the rim being 8" deep as opposed to 1"; its just like when you stick a pipe over a wrench to get more leverage on it, same applies here.

Also, your quad will handle much better because with a shallow offset, rocks and branches and anything that catches the outside of the wheel doesnt have as much force in twisting the bars out of your hands because of the reduced leverage. Not only that, but your brake calipers are much more protected inside the wheel than hanging out, ala a 3+2 wheel, or more extremely, a 2+3 wheel.

And yes, all wheel manufactures sell wheels in the 4+1.

Krandall, if you have a +2 a aarm setup and go to a 4+1 wheel, it will effectively make your bike +1 overall, as raptors came with 3+2 wheels. This means a front track of 48... what ur looking for. As for the back, if its an adjustable axle then I just answered my own question, if not you may turn the rear wheels around so that the air valve is inside, that will lose you some width. It will also be easir on your rear wheel hubs.

ahh, I didnt even think about the leverage piece of it. that makes perfect sense.. Are stock raptor rims 3/2?

yep, stockers are 3+2. The DS 450 is known to be the best handling 450 out there (even better than the KTM!!!!) and a lot of this is due to their use of 4+1 rims and having a front end engineered to maximize negative scrub radius and reduce leverage
