i didn't know where to put this so i figured off topic will work. but anyway....

why do crotch rocket engines sound so much different then our raptors? is it the multiple cyliders, stroke, or what?

It's the smaller bore and 10k+ RPMS I think.

i always wonered why they kinda sounds like 2 strokes. i know 2 stroke make the ding-ding noise but a street bike always kinda sounded like one to me.

What sounds cool is two piped quads running side by side at about the same RPM.  Sounds like a Harley sometimes.   8)

mostly stock with a 12t sprocket of fury

me and my buddy went riding the other day. and that's what happened. about full throttle in 5th gear sounds pretty cool.

Peelz

high rpm, small stroke, but high compression. Power comes on fast, no time for rumble....with smaller stroke. And they are balanced like you wouldn't believe to be hitting that high rpm

KFX700's with dual exhaust sound a bit like a harley. Weird thing to hear out in the dunes.

the rpms have alot to do with it.  250fs sounds like a mini street bike
also think about the pistons. think about the sound of a 6cyl compaired to a v8

+1 think about at idling.  Raptor at 1000 rpm = 500 explosions/or ignition strokes you hear.

Streetbike 4 cyl idle at 1000 rpm = 2000 explosions

Put a wide open exhaust on a streetbike and the game changes a bit. You can notice the different cylinders firing.

why does the yfz sound like a street bike? becuase it revs so fast? ???

please forgive a semi drunk post, but the reason that a crotch rocket sounds so different is the bore to stoke ratio. My  Kawi is a 600 4 cylinder with a stort storke, and the raptor is a long storke big bore. The shorter stroke smaller distplacement will rev to the moon while the larger mass of a single 700CC will not rev as fast. shorter storke, smaller bore will have less mass to rotating mass than a 600CC 4 cylinder.
Just a little 81hp trail bike.

the revs have to do with it. but i wouldnt call the sound of a 450 quad a streetbike......

closer to that than a big bore such as my dads DS650. not a real deep sound
