I've seen that one before. Simply amazing. I wonder how much they had to pay to get a jet to race them. freaking sweet vid! 8)

To run a jet like that, you're looking at $12,000 an hour in fuel alone.

I would bet with a more experienced driver, it would be way closer or the car could win. Whats the speed of a jet like that going straight up?

And whats the speed like going straight down?

On a speed climb that aircraft in a clean configuration would break the speed of sound no problem, and be capable of +1200mph climb., especially since it went to 5280 feet and then nosed over. The aircraft would have easily broke the speed of sound on the way up and down, but I'm sure due to noise restrictions, the plane never got above 600-620 mph. The aircraft wouldn't have slowed until it got into thinner atmosphere on a speed climb.

As an example, between the dates of Jan. 16 and Feb. 1, 1975, an F-15A nicknamed "Streak Eagle" broke eight time-to-climb world records. It reached an altitude of 98,425 feet just 3 minutes 27.8 seconds from brake release at takeoff and coasted to nearly 103,000 feet before descending.

The F-15, F-22, Su-27-35, and the Mig-31 are the only aircraft that can accelerate in vertical flight  :grin_nod:

That is simply amazing.

I wonder what the official height is where there's no sky and it turns to black.

not really, the ramjets would not take effect to give it full thrust until higher speeds.  Plus the fact that it couldn't launch with enough fuel, becuase they would leak like a sive until external pressures would tighten up the seals at high speed.

Ionosphere is the highest. There are several different layers, the D layer, E, Es, and F layer.

F layer is 75 to 249 miles above the Earth.
