I may be installing a HC2 cam in my 700 this weekend. Been looking up info on the install and see they have a "install kit"  with a degree wheel and other measuring devices.  Do I really need these items?

Any other tricks to installing?

Thanks

Do a search. There is a great write up in here somewhere, with step by step pictures

As far as degreeing the cam goes IMHO it's only worth the time and effort on a highly modded build that your trying to get every ounce of power out of. It is very time consuming and it's a real pain to change the cam timing if you find your not matching their installed centerline reccomendation. Usually if you havent done any head or cylinder milling your gonna be pretty close as long as you line the timing marks up correctly. As PDX said there's a good write up on here somewhere, and it's a breeze to install the drop in cams like the HCII & III

Good luck,

Thanks guys, found an excellent writeup for doing the valves. Nothing for the cam.  I just finished reading the service manual, looks to me the trickiest part is the decompression system

Hardest part is getting the rocker pins out.  Bo, (velociraptor) has some pics somewhere of a little tool that he made up for some 6x1 mm allthread, a long socket, a nut and a few washers that made it ton easier for me....

Yeah, like they said..  I used the 6mm allthread.  Oh, another good bit of info is make sure you break the 4 bolts (2 on the cam sprocket and 2 on the cam itself) before you take the cam chain off.  That way you can still lock it down with the 22 mm deep well socket.  Its a PITA to break the bolts on the cam decom system if you pull it all the way out and have it sitting in your hands.    Know from xperiance!
I got a '06 with some KDS Racing bells and whistles  :grin_nod:

I just called South Seattle Yamaha and ordered a tappet adjuster kit from them $39.99, it has a wrench to hold the 10mm nut and a variety of square headed sockets to hold the stud in place when you tighten down the nut.  It has several sizes so it will fit different machines.  I think the Raptor tappet stud is 3mm.
