my buddies and i where out riding just now at dusk and one of them noticed that my rear brake rotor was glowing red hot. when i used the brakes. i know that the brake will get hot when in use but should they start glowing? my have a 07 raptor with drilled rotors should it still be glowing? i did put on a set of EBC sever(sp) duty brake pads, could this have anything to do with that?  i'm a little concerned here.

UPDATE:

i finally got time to tear my caliper off my raptor and see what the deal is. after fighting with it for about 1/2 half it finally came off. and yeah there was a bunch of crap packed between the brake pads and rotor. so i cleaned everything up with a scotch brite pad and put it all back together. my rotor doesn't have any groves cut in it or anything so that is nice. but my brake pads have spots where you can see that the crap was building up. and well after cleaning everything up, it rolls around the garage just fine.

here are the pics of my brake pads. the pics aren't all that great but you can see the spots i was talking about.

you guys think they are still ok? i hope they are because i put everything back together already. lol

Something is sticking for shure That cannot be good on it for the drag factor it causes and it would warp it in time... ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

it only turns red when i use the brakes after i let up it cools off. it doesn't glow any when i was hauling ass in 5th gear just after i used the brakes. so i don't think anything is sticking. but that is what i thought at first.

yeah that's what i was thinking. and after i noticed the rear rotor getting toasty i started using more front.  i ushally use only front brakes while out riding in the country. but for some reason i used my back ones tonight.  ???

yea, quads- front. you dont have to worry about washing out ( like a bike) so i always use the front, not so much rear.

I wonder what EBC would say about this?

I've never had anyone notice a glowing rotor on my quad before  ???

Me neither but I really don't ride at night

Totally different material.  That material is meant to glow red hot when under pressure.  It also cools faster and retains its shape.  This is a different breaking system.

tru, those are carbon brakes but ive seen regular metal discs do that same thing  ???

if they do it could be the pads or too much friction.

something caught between the pad and the brake causing too much friction and heating up the rotor.

you dont mean friction from stoping right.? because i dont think you could have too much friction while stoping lol
i get wat ur saying now

so you think i should pull my caliper and check for crap stuck in the brake shoes?
