Here's one of our birds.

Great pic

We have had this conversation before.  I had a GI joe version of that back in elementary school. And a blackbird copy.   They were the biz-omb!

The "Cobra Rattler".

I had that and the Skystriker (F14 knock off).

I'm sure they ended up in a garage sale or something.

doesn't look like a very agile plane.  ???

they are very agile, slow, but made for air to ground combat. Taking out tanks and stuff. Has to be agile, and strong to carry that giant gun on it.

think it's a 50 caliber. IDK, but the rounds I've seen are huge and recoil slows the plane down.

Slow (365 knots = 420 mph), and very agile.

The A-10 has a 30 mm GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling gun. One of the most powerful aircraft cannons ever flown, it fires large depleted uranium armor-piercing shells. In the original design, the pilot could switch between two rates of fire: 2,100 or 4,200 rounds per minute; this was changed to a fixed rate of 3,900 rounds per minute. The cannon takes about half a second to come up to speed, so 50 rounds are fired during the first second, 65 or 70 rounds per second thereafter. The gun is consistently accurate; it can place 80% of its shots within a 40-foot (12.4 meter) circle from 4,000 feet (1,220 meters) while in flight. The GAU-8 is optimized for a slant range of 4,000 feet (1,220 m) with the A-10 in a 30 degree dive.

See list of operators at the bottom, and it will list the 188th in Fort Smith, AR.

30 mm, that's right, and just relatively slow was what I meant, thanks for the facts.
