Anybody know anything about boat repair?  A buddy just got a 21' center console from another guy.  We are thinking about splitting costs and are now looking into what will be involved.  He already tore the deck out.  The wood in the stringers is shot.  I've heard a could of ways of fixing that.  Best thing I've read so far is to cut the top of the stringer off leaving the sides intact, dig out the wood, clean thoroughly then partially fill with epoxy or resin, press a new replacement board into place and reglass the top of the stringer.

The transom isn't horrible but we are this deep, may as well go the rest of the way.  From what I've read for transom repair, the easiest way is to cut the top to expose the wood, dig it out, clean and fill the cavity with this liquid repair stuff that is getting good reviews.  I'd rather do that than cut the whole thing out and duplicate with marine ply.  The stuff is supposed to be 3x the strength of a plywood transom.  Has a 100 hp outboard.

The easiest thing would to be to buy another boat but there's no guarantee that one doesn't have issues as well even if the deck feels solid.

The boats I trust are over 10k, plenty of cheaper ones around with a soft spot or two but I'm pretty sure that's how this one was.

If we follow thru, I plan to seal all the wood with epoxy before I close it back up.  No big hurry on repairs so timeframe isn't too important.

Anybody else been in the same... boat?  (boo hiss)

  Not the help I was looking for guys!  It would be pretty awesome though.  Pile it will brush and give it a good ol' Viking funeral.

I'm not a connoisseur by any means but every now and then I accidentally turn out a good cup using the junk in a big tub.  I can't add any Kahlua to it though, I'm drinking it before work.
