I purchased a Honda 250sx about a yr ago used in good shape and runs good. Anyway my wife has taken over the 250 as it was for my daughter but we since bought her a motorcycle. Anyway it (pops/backfires) on deceleration only and shes not looking it. I was looking yesterday at the boot between the head and carb and it looks to be cracked not sure if its sucking air or not though, if it is its very little. Do you think its in the carb like maybe some jetting. Anyway what do you guys think it could be? Oh its all stock to. Thanks for any input.

all stock...that boot may be the problem. Take the carb apart, clean the crap out of it. You could even tape up that boot. Is the spark arrestor/muffler intact inside?

How old?

Thanks Peels
Its a 2001. When I did purchase it I did have to take the carb apart to clean it as when I went to drain the gas out of the bowl the drain screw wouldn't shut the fuel off, so I put the carb apart. So I think should be fairly clean still. It has had this pop/backfire since I have owned it. The sparky and muffler is intact and the sparky is clean as I have had it out. I will try to tape up the boot and see if that helps. Hope this helps out. Thanks

Poping on decel is a sure sign of an intake leak.
Just a little 81hp trail bike.

Krandall

take some carb cleaner, while the bike is running, spray around the boot, it'll tell you RIGHT away.

popping or backfiring on decelleration can also be caused by an exhaust leak.
My TL1000S has a leak on one of the joins in the exhaust.
Does GREAT backfires on decell!
