I looked at my old manual too. I agree with Randy. Not coming from bolts. Almost has to be that line again. Can you run it while sitting and wacth for oil coming out? or is it a really slow leak?

no,  its too slow ive tried.   i completly cleaned degreased and dried the whole motor and everything surrounding it and turned it on let it warm up,  rode it around the bolck with my head down!  cant see it!
i better give it good dirt beating tomorrow and see!  haha!

...it seems as though the oil is coming out from the 2 allen bolts on the top

-Try re torquing the bolts.  If still leaking remove head cover, clean mating surfaces and re-yamabond

or the two bolts with the "holes" in them

-Replace o-rings that seal the ends of these rocker arm shafts

or the seal directly above them.

Not sure what you mean by that.  The head cover is one cast piece with a few cutouts.

awesome!  thanks a lot for all the advice,   i rode it for a little bit today and think that it is coming from the oil line that i replaced washers on.    i am going to replace the washers and the bolt that holds the oil line in place .

am i supposed to put any loc tite or any type of sealant(liquid)     on the bolt or the washers?

again thanks a lot!

No, that is a banjo bolt meaning it's designed with a hole in it to allow oil to pass through.  Adding threadlocker will gum up the passage and you'll be replacing the whole top end in no time.  Be careful to use the right torque on the bolt (page 5-8 of your OEM service manual) to avoid stripping out the threads, which will cause it to continue to leak if it can't be tightened down.

zacharkins

ok thanks again!   i need to buy a torque wrench i guess

You should be able to get a loaner from a local auto parts store for free or a nominal charge.  But if you're going to be working on the quad yourself a lot they are a great tool to have around.

zacharkins

ya,   i love doing my own work and maintenance i just dont have very much experience with rebuilding motors.   so every llittle "trick"helps!

llike is said im going to buy a new bolt and new washers and start all over!    hopefully that works!

ok so i decided to take my raptor to the dealer and have them check it for fear of a higher expense in the long run.

it turned out to be leaking from a cylinder head bolt and had to be resealed (no gasket there)     and i also had an exhaust leak coming from the motor to the header  so a $4 gasket was needed there.

it ended up costing $210 for labor and parts  but at least its fixed!      and in plenty of time for the holiday weekend too!   yee haw!

Krandall

good to hear you got it fixed man!!!
