OK, so yesterday morning my computer locked up.  So I hard booted it and when it came back up, the screen was odd, several colors were off, and there were some pixilated areas.  So I hard booted again, it got worse.  Hard booted one more time, got the BSOD with a message about a driver in an infinite loop (hard to read, it was very pixilated), I think it was nv_4 (nvidia something maybe?).  So I messed with it some more and decided to swap out the video card.  I threw the original card back in and it works fine.  When I checked out the XFX card I had in there, this is what I found:

Kamakazi

unless you have warranty, it time for a new card.  phone xfx and see if they will do something for you.

Any idea what would cause those capacitors (at least I think they are capacitors) to burst like that? ???

Mad Dog

Caps were a big issue not that long ago, on lots of different types of hardware but motherboards handling high power processors especially.  Basically they were popping left and right and many attributed it to the cheap methods and locations in which they were produced and a lack of quality control.  Since then a common marketing tool has been to advertise quality caps and list some virtue describing them as such.

I too would check with XFX about warrantying the board, if it's a relatively recent purchase I'd also talk to the retailer.

Thanks for the input Mad Dog.  It's a little over a year and a half old, but I did contact XFX service.  I'm waiting for their reply.

I had a XFX card for quite a while and it did the same thing. But mine was overclocked quite a bit. I cut my losses and got a 9600GT.
Just a little 81hp trail bike.

If you know a good electronics engineer. They could solder new capacitors on there for you.. :)

Well it took a little while, but XFX came through.  There is a brand new 9500GT on it's way to me at no charge (well, I did have to pay for shipping the old card back).
