Driver smokes near gas, blast wrecks car


NEW MINAS (CP) — More proof that smoking is hazardous to your health.

A man filled up a couple of gas containers in New Minas on Thursday but didn't have a lid for one of them.

He put the containers in his trunk and drove off but soon noticed a smell of gas.

The man pulled into a parking lot, but instead of checking the containers right away decided to have a smoke first.

New Minas Fire Chief Jim Redmond says the resulting explosion and fire destroyed the car.

The man escaped with only singed hair on his head.

When I turned wrenches at the local for dealer, the guys would always smoke while doing fuel pumps. It would REAK of gas for a 50' radius and they'd light up. Nothing ever happened. I was amazed...lol.

i think it's funny when i read things like this. i have watched people clean carbs while smoking. i mean the amount of fumes you need built up to ignite it amazing. that guy must have been high as a kite from them which is why he probably didn't think twice about lighting up while still in the fume filled car. or he's just stupid i don't know.
