my girlfriend and i have spent almost $1000. seems like she needs to buy a gift for EVERY member of her family. shes says it's because we are going to be saving for a house next year so we won't be able to spend so much then.

I know my wife and I have spent more this year than previous years.  She is better off financially this year than ever before, and I blew my whole profit sharing check on gifts for other people (totally out of character for me, I'm usually very selfish with my loot).  We don't have kids, so we buy for each other, then our parents, my sis and her family, wife's sisters and families, a few close friends, and we make some donations (Toys for Tots and stuff like that).

We normally do some kind of gift for a boy and a girl for Toys for Tots, or get an Angel off the Angel Tree at our local mall. This year we kicked in money to sponsor a family with 6 kids.
