This should help explain the issue of valve float. Valve float issues arise when the valve bounces off the seat. You will be able to see the oscillations through the spring and the valve will start rocking. Beehive springs are far superior at handling this compared to regular springs. Beehive springs have higher seat pressure without increasing over the nose pressure, thereby reducing unwanted parasitic losses when compared to super heavy straight springs. Beehive springs also do not set up a resonant frequency where control is lost due to a springs natural harmonics.

Valve failure is caused by uncontrolled hammering on the seat. It is not a big deal if the cam launches the valve over the nose......Free lift  This video will show the importance of good guides and a perfect valve to seat fit. The seat and guides are not causing this problem, but can do a little to help control it.

Thats badass Kenny!  That makes alot more sense when u can see what's going on.  I've floated my valves on my Chev mudder and it lost power for a sec then kicked backed in.....  Would the raptor have a similar situation like that?

It can, especially when the BIG cams start getting popular. Hotcams was very careful to design their opening and closing ramp rates to work with stock springs..... I will not be so kind!

Kenny is anyone making the beehive spring for the 660 Raptor? That is a great video and explains some markings on the top of my valve stem.

After watching the video I went out to take a closer look at the valve stems and just noticed that the inner spring on the center intake valve was broken... ::) Looks like I tore the duner down just in time.

Ya, the 660 is a rocker. What specs do you need?

I am not sure where to find the spec's you need but I would be interested in springs of the correct pressure for a Megacycle X14 cam. Thanks Kenny!!

Would there be a point to putting aftermarket springs on a stock motor? Would it make the valves any longer even at mid rpms?
