Find an authorized retailer.  I bought a Stihl at a John Deere place and they offer two different bars for my model.  What's wrong with the chain?  Is it too long or is the gauge wrong?  If it's just length why not have it shortened.  If it's the wrong gauge a bar may not help because the drive sprocket fit right.  A bar for mine is about $70 and a chain is around $20.  He might be better off buying a new chain.

I know Menards sells McCulloch brand bars and chains.. if you have one around, would be worth checking.

Good advice guys!

Now how would one go about "getting rid of the evidence" after using said chainsaw?  ???

he has about 6-7 different chains that will fit the 20" bar he has but they are a smaller gauge chain. and he has a chain for his 28" bar but it is also a smaller gauge. so i mean it's not like he can't use the saw or anything. he just made a .060 gauge chain at his buddies repair shop but he can't find a bar anywhere that it will fit. so that's just it we need a 20" bar for a .060 gauge chain. i checked ebay, searched google, and came up with nothing. everything is either a bigger or smaller gauge. so any other ideas for me. and thanks for the on topic replies you guys that were on topic.

Well it looks like he has a one off then.  Call the mfr and see if they make what he needs.  Why the .060 gauge?  He might be out of luck.

his buddies shop that he made the chain in i guess just had a bunch of .060 gauge links laying around or something i'm not sure. i guess it looks as though the .060 gauge is an obsolete size of chain.
