How can I get more power across the band? More torque!?!?!
« on: July 28, 2008, 02:51:35 PM »
I have an 07 SE 700 with barkers/pcIII and the pro design K&N intake. It has good power, but I am looking for ways to increase the torque as much as possible!

I would also like to add more power across the band. I definitely want more down low, but dont want to sacrifice up top (and for sure do not want to sacrifice the bottom on a cam to get more top).

Is there a cam that will give me more power all over? (Is x-4 just a top end cam?) Torque is really a big deal for me, so the more the better!

I am thinking boring the tb, getting the adjustable ignition, the FCI intake (with airbox as I ride some wet stuff) and a cam will be enough power to satisfy me for awhile.

Also, what are the costs on the cam and the TB porting? (is there just one person doing it?)

PM Kenny @ KDS Racing for info on the TB boring!

As far as cams go. I went HC Stage 2 for 2 reasons. Loss on low end was minimal. gains on high end were out of this world. And spring upgrades arent required!

are you looking for power w/out splitting the engine?

If you want it across the board then big cams and big compression is the ticket.

With big compression you loose a bit of top end and gain an ass load of bottom end. With big cams you loose a little bottom end and gain an ass load of top end. This way they cancle each other nicely and make a MONSTER!!!
Just a little 81hp trail bike.

I agree with the above suggestions, but I will say if you're not dyno tuned yet, that maybe the cheapest HP and TQ ticket.

Well I dont want to run race gas so 11.5:1 is about my max compression. I would prefer not going into the motor yet (well a cam is acceptable).

I have 5 bike lenghts on my buddies LTR but my other buddy is getting the athena big bore and some supporting mods, so I want to make sure im still ahead of him! So far I only have the crappy K&N pro flow intake (or whatever its called) with the barkers and PCIII. I have the evac valve and dynatek programmable on the way, and would like to have a cam and TB bore and then hit the dyno to get it all tuned up right.

Lol ya the proflow seems decent mine is just the K&N and I dont really like K&N filters anymore (fan of foam).

I was thinking hard about getting the FCI, but only once I see dynos with the box for me to justify spending like 250ish on a new intake. If its just negligible (.5-1 hp/tq) than I will stick with what I have and get a fat Uni or Twin filter on that proflow adaptor before it gets tuned.

What cam do you all reccomend for my build? Barkers/ PcIII/ Proflow K&N/ Dynatek/ Evac & soon a TB bore.

Hotcams stage 3, or Megacycle x-4.  The HC3 will be less laborous.

Deos anybody know what kind of gains I will see (or maybe even a dyno) of adding just the HC3 to a big 6 build? (duals/intake/pcIII/evac/TB bore/dynatek)?

I would just like to see what it does to the power/torque curves and where the gains are at.

My bike is at the dyno as we speak. I added a HC3 and 11:1 piston. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

excellent comparison dyno chart.  I too prefer an average reading. You do not stay at the exact RPM that the power peaks.

Thanks for the link Colorado.
