there seems to be alot of questions and issues about relays and how to build a harness. I made this diagram some time ago when i was part of a grandprix forumn, but you will get the general idea. This can be used for: SPAL fans, horns (substitute switch for momentary), HID lights, LED lights, and just about any 12v acessory. With the raptor or any yamaha quad for that matter make sure you ground to the battery, not the frame, I promise you will burn out your regulator if you do ground to the frame.

Nice, thanks much Kama :)

Just a thing to add on this, some relay have an internal diode to prevent sparking the contact (making a longer lasting relay). It is important to know that relays should always have + on the 86 pin and the ground on the 85 pin.

Question..
Whats the purpose of a relay?
-
all the power to fan , lights or whatever doesn't go thought the switch. Switchs will last longer.

Ahhh!!! That makes sense!!!
Thanks Als!

its also safer on higher current items.. you can run lighter gauge wire to the switch and heavy gauge wire to the item. makes for cleaner installs as well
