Title: Which Jets?
Post by: BoisBlancBoy on May 12, 2008, 04:23:05 PM
Hey hello everyone!  New guy here with some jet questions, which I think I pretty much have figured out already.

I have a 2005 Raptor 350.  Just bought a HMF Slip-on Exhaust and a Mod Quad K&N Intake/Filter, with outerwear and my elevation is 600-700ft.

Which jets am I going to need?

I have been told already that I will probably need a 155 mikuni Main Jet and a 25 Pilot jet.  I have also been told that I dont need pilot jets, but being knew to this aspect I am trying to get all the info possible cause I want to do it right the first time.

Thanks!  Great site!

Welcome aboard.

Pilot jet controls fuel delivery to half throttle. Bumping the factory 22.5 to a 25 will help with low end.

I jetted my neighbor's bike like the settings I emailed you and it runs really well.

Your local dealer may have them. Be sure to check there first, you'll save on shipping. Total cost around $8.

Another mod you may try is drop a tooth on the front sprocket.

It will give it a bit of low end power!

Yeah I was thinking of doing that.  I want to test out the difference with the exhaust and intake first.  If I do that I am hoping for some decent power to get up for wheelies a bit better, its gotta help I would think.

The sprocket will make a huge difference. For $20, you can't beat it!

I just ordered my jets today, so hopefully they will be here before the end of the week.

Another quick question, anyone have or know of a picture that depicts each part of the carb that I am going to have to change and adjust?  Which jets, mixture, idle screw etc?

In that picture, is that showing the bottom of the carb with just the bowl off the bottom?

If thats the case, can I do these adjustments without having to take the carb completely off?

Yes.

The bowl screws a re bitch to get off and I recommend changing them to Torx bolts. You can access the bowl without removing the carb, but chances are the screw will strip. OEM screws are crap!

If I remember right I had it out a couple years ago cause I had to completely clean my carb cause I got some dirty gas and which ended up clogging some jets.  So hopefully it should be a problem to get out.

Oh, so can I do the adjustments without pulling the whole carb out?

Yes.

Loosen the carb at the carb boots, twist the carb clockwise, and access the bottom from the left side of the bike.

Up and to the right of the main jet is th pilot jet.

Factory pilot should be a 22.5 if memory serves me correctly.
