Alright, I'm trying to install my HC Stage II and I have already removed necessary components as per the service manual. I didn't have a slide hammer for the rocker arm retaining pins so I had to rig something up....Well it worked but no I'm having trouble pulling the cam....the manual says to just: "Remove the camshaft" in the next step, but I'm not finding it that easy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Hmmm. I'd call Kenny from KDS (Sponsor). He'll hook you up with help info
Did you get it yet? If the rocker arm shafts are out then all you have to do is give it a turn while you are pulling on it with your hands.
Yeah I got it...sorry for not updating this thread yet...I also completed valve clearances. Everything was going pretty good until I dropped a cam screw down into my crankcase (That was after I had already spent longer than expected removing the rocker arm shafts. Didn't have a slide hammer so I had to "rig" a gear puller up to get those out. That was a site to behold. )
After fishing for the screw for like an hour I finally decided to remove the case cover and pull the flywheel.....I didn't have the right tool for that so it was a pain in the ass as well.... and of course the local stealership never had a replacement gasket in stock so I had to use some tubed sealant as a gasket and that has a 24 hour cure time so I didn't even get to hear her turn over. However, I was able to finally get her back together and get my new map loaded. So now I just wait until Monday to see how she runs......What a day.....what a day....
Bummer man,
I have a pic somewhere of Bo and Josh (Veloci/Bamaquad) with their rigged up slide hammer. I'll have to see if I can find it...
(even though you got it already)
Here's what I had going on

I did just the HCII and hated it until i got the JE 11.1 piston lost alot of top end and torque with just the cam maybe yours will be a different story ;)

That's funny, I have heard from numerous others that their top end improved but the bottom end suffered a little...I'm definitely goin with a CP piston in the fall though...and probably an aggressive P&P by "someone"????? Anyone else wanna share their experiences with just the Stage II Cam installed?
His timing might have been one tooth off and then when the piston was installed, the timing was correct so he would get a big seat of the pants difference. I know about this one tooth off thing from experiance! Luckily for me, it was when I did my piston and I just knew something was wrong. Just like he said, I lost top end, bottom end, all ends! So I take it back home, pop the cam cover and get it to TDC and show nuff, was off just one lil old toof! Moral of this story is, once you got the cam chain on and the tensioner back on, turn the motor a couple more times and check just to make sure you got it timed right.
Oh, and yes, could definitely tell a big difference all around with the HC2. :grin_nod:

Definitely turned the motor like umpteen times to check, recheck, and recheck my checks before I closed her up  Now I just gotta get an off day from work to test her out....I'll let everyone know my opinions on the Stage II
