Title: Looking for suggestions on super-lite toyhaulers for a 1/2 ton
Post by: dungbeetle06 on May 10, 2008, 10:21:51 AM
The girlfriend and I are starting to look at Toy haulers and are running into road blocks. I have an 05 GMC sierra 1500 2wd with 3.23 gears, it looks like the max trailer weight for my truck would be 7000 lbs. My co-worker has an 06 Warrior 19ft superlite for sale for a good price but it looks like even that trailer loaded would throw me over the top. Been checking to see what people are legally towing with a comprable truck?

Kind of odd having 3.23's.

Most I see are 3.42 or 3.73.

How big is the trailer you like?

Yep......I was wanting a that truck so bad I didn't care about the gears at the time. Seems like my truck cant tow crap. I will be regearing to 3.73's soon and putting helper bags on, even then I will only gain about 600 lbs cap. We were about to get that Warrior but I want to make sure I am completely legal, the roads on the way to Ocotillo Wells and Glamis have been having checkpoints for Lic, reg, and trailer inspections.

Inspections?

No way.

The gears you have will help you get good gas mileage, but the tow aspect does suck I bet. You might be able to get away with 3.42's and it tow it just fine and still get good mileage.

thats what i would do. and test that out. if it struggles then get some 3.73's and throw them in

If you're not pulling that often, I'd leave the 3.42's in.

3.73's will be rough on fuel efficiency.

I don't know, I drive 40 miles to work each day and most of it is steep hills, wondering if it would average out. The 3.23's probably kill my mileage on those hills

If your constantly downshifting, it may affect your performance. 3.23's are more of a highway gear, so you should do well on the highway.

I really looked into that when I was out there and I really liked the tahoe light hauler 23.  It had the front bedroom and still had a good amount of room in the back.  Another would be the nitro 23.  Just about the same and set up like the gearboxes.

There is a small place in upland that has tahoe and they have HUGE deals this time of year on toyhaulers.  They don't have much room and he needs to bring in his normal camper stock for the summer season.  You will like the 23 foot, it has all the name brand stuff ( generator, ac, and heater).  Its on foothill, just east of central ave.
