Title: Car Audio Peeps inside
Post by: disco on March 26, 2012, 09:27:31 AM
Got an amp and the rear channel is blown.  What do I want?  I need recommendations.  I've looked on Newegg but I don't know anything about this stuff.  Not really looking to break the bank here but I'd like something loud and clear.  Front speakers and subs sounds like crap.

This amp is running the door speakers in front and the pillar speakers in back.  Have a separate amp for the subs.

I bought a new stereo for the truck a while back after the CD player quit ejecting and couldn't get the sound quite right.  Kept fiddling with it.  Faded to the front, fine.  Fade to the rear, nothing.  Switch the wires on the amp to make sure it's the amp and not the stereo.  Nothing on the rear channel.

I would have left the stock stereo in but something on it broke.  Forgot what it looks like now.  I think it quit ejecting as well.  I must wear them out.  Play a song, eject, stick in new CD.  Repeat.  I have auditory ADD.

do you plan on changing the front speakers as well to something aftermarket?  i can make a few reccomendations if i know what you want to replace and what your budget is.  front speakers, a sub and a 4 channel amp can be inexpensive, but i wouldnt expect to only spend 300$.  also what sub do you have? what kind of box is it in? sealed or ported?  also what is the model# of that rockford amp?  i thought that particular one was only a 2 channel ???

four Boston Acoustic 4x6's (2 front, 2 rear) and two MTX 10's in a two boxes.  Old school Punch 45 that won't die on the 10's.  Had it probably fifteen years.   8)

I need a new amp to run the four 4x6's that can keep up with the 45.

$168 - MB Quart ONX4.125 1000W RMS, ONYX Series 4-Channel Amplifier

Yay or Nay?  If I blow my speakers I'll put better ones in.

it will run your front speakers no problem at all.  It is a class D, which makes it a better sub amp, but it will run your 4x6 no problem.

I understand that this amp is no where near as powerful, but it is decently clean with its class A/B power, and i promise it will sound better http://www.amazon.com/JX360-Audio-4-Channel-Class-Amplifier/dp/B004MLXWSK/ref=sr_1_23?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1332997623&sr=1-23

Hope this helps, i had the old punch 45 back in the day, but i traded up to something much more powerful  just a little mmats 2500w rms amp  8) ahhh, the good old days when i could still hear

Cool, I'll go with what you say.  I'm audio illiterate.  Clean sound is better than simply loud.

Thanks!

Truck, no trunk.  But I can always drop some washers or bb's inside the door to get that ghetto trunk rattle going.   Get that bump 'n buzz sound going on.   8)

Why not do a 5 channel?

I guess I could have.  Didn't think about it.  My subs sound pretty good though.  I figured that amp blew, I'll replace it.

5 channels are nice, but it gets pricey for good ones that can run a sub decently.  He has 2 10" mtx subs, i have no isea if they are dual voice coil or not, an have no idea how many ohms they are.  so for a setup like what he has, he would need four of the channels to have at least 50watts of rms power, and somewhere in the neighborhood of 300watts rms power for the 5th channel have have it sound half decent.  On top of that, to even compare the quality of the setup he would be going with on the jl amp i recommended, it would need to be class a/b power, not class d power like most of the cheap amps out there.  That gets quite pricey, I just typed 5 channel amp into google, and there was a cadence 1800w amp class a/b amp that was a 5 channel for like 150$, but its performance and quality pale in comparison to what he already has with the addition of the jl amp.

I rocked a kicker 700.5 for 6 years with no issues. powered 2 sets of JL 5x7's and two JL 10" W0's. Sounded very nice and very loud.

most of the good 5channel amps have an a/b 4channel and a D mono in one case. memphis had one that was really good but i think they quit making it.

i did not say he couldnt run a 5 channel amp, i just said that for 150$ that he couldnt compare to what would have with this jl amp.  I merely suggested an amp that would do a better job than the one he picked for a lesser price and tried to explain to him why it was better than the one he selected.  that kicker 700.5 im betting wasnt a cheap amp.  If we wanted to talk high end and unlimited budget, by all means i have some very good suggestions.  I run all focal high end speakers, i have the krx 3-way components in my car right now with an audison lrx250 amp powering them. There is an audison srx2s amp running running a boston g312 sub that i can tear apart and replace individual parts, but i highly doubt he wants to spend the cash to have my setup.

and TXREDJ as for a 5 channel amp that has a 4 channel class a/b and a 5th channel in class d, please show me an example of one in the 150$-300$ range and ill tell you if it is any good or not.  i find myself continuously surprised at some of the deals on the net these days, i have to wonder if some of these are knock offs or are refurbished.  An example of this is all of the new focal speakers on ebay, they are all chineese knock offs, focal does not allow its products to be sold on ebay, it will pull a dealer liscence and take back all of the stores inventory if caught doing so.

Yes these do have long life and quality sound. One of my friends owns them and they are working perfectly
