Poll
Question: What would you do?
Option 1: Rebuild as is, get the most out of the current build votes: 5
Option 2: Upgrade the current build and maximize the N/A potential votes: 7
Option 3: Lower static compression, add a bottle of go-go juice votes: 3

I haven't been happy with my bikes performance since I upgraded to 778 from 727.  I believe I have either a folded oil ring or my valve guides are leaking.  In either cas, oil is getting into the cylinder robbing some ponies.

I've been tossing around ideas, and or plans about what to do next.

A. Just fix the problems, and ride.

This is probably the cheapest route as far as simply getting back to riding, but against my "Since you're there" mentality.

B. Upgrade the TB, maybe Cam. I think the small TB is really showing its limits with a 778 build.  When I installed the WK big tapered intake on the 727, I think it mitigated some of the over rev performace issues I had previously, but I don't think, with the addition of 51cc, that it can keep pace anymore.  Also, If I truly want to unlock all the power in the bike, a diffrent cam might be in order.  However, I'm not truly out for a drag bike, my bike has always been multi purpose, to which the RJ has always served me well.

C. Lower compression, install Boss Noss for when i want it.  Lowerering the compression obviously helps with the operating expense. Race gas is pricey, and since I race for maybe 10 minutes on any given dune trip, maximum performance isn't required 100% of the time.  If i used a Boss Noss kit and dropped my compression, I could put the bottles on the bike when i wanted to race, but run pump premium only and save some cash the rest of the time.

What would you do?

Aaron

Honestly, as cool as the giggle gas would be (and I do agree with your stated reasoning behind option C), I'm with Peelio.  Fix what ya got and run it.

But of course, it's really up to you.  You're footing the bill and doing the work.  So whatever makes you happy is what you should do.

Could always go back to stock bore. I have a decent cylinder that would work with a little honing.

Honestly...if you are happy with power it has now for duning and trail riding and just want a bit more for the drags...then it sounds like the nitrous is the way to go.  I sprayed mine for a little bit, and it was fun...but when my bottle was empty, I was always wanting more.

Is there anything bigger available than 14:1 compression for raptors?

I kinda go with DL700.
the giggle gas would be fun, but you will either
1/ run out when you want more
2/ leave the bottles in the truck too often
3/ blow the motor/crash big time, cos you just couldn't back off

However Ethan is a purty boy & I'm sure you could get a bit of wad whoreing him out for a couple of months till he goes to boot-camp...........

I say maybe fix it as is and throw some more cam at it and your old one at me! But you know what my opinion is worth...

I love my 54mm Tb... Fix whatever the issue is then try Tb. for biggest boost in Hp. If not satisfied yet change cams... The Tb is holding you back IMO. Best of luck either way.

so have you made a bloody decision yet?
If you don't get onto building it, you will be half-way through your summer riding season, & still be bitchin about not having a running quad
(like I have been)
I tore my quad down in march last year, it finally ran 2 days ago, & will get first test ride this arvo.

So, rip ya panties, tear that fucker down & get her done whatever way you gonna do it!
