Just getting a idea how some of you broke them in..I usally break them in like i am going to ride them..After the first tank of doing heat cycles and easy on it i change the oil and never look back but this being the wifes quad and we are leaving for St.A next Friday and we have only burned about a half tank through it maybe a couple hour's total on it...Do i change it now or leave it in and change it after a few ride's when we get there?
Change it when you get back.I was told by my dealer to change it at 500 miles,as im road legal.I done my first change at 450 miles and them 1000 miles
The manual recommends at 20 hours and then every 80 from there? I can't remember.
I changed mine at 10, and didn't really notice any impurities or too much degradation of the oil's viscosity. I changed it again as I got to 20 hours and still no impurities or degradation of viscosity. I think I will wait till 15-20 hours for the next one.
It's important that you do your first oil and filter change at or before 10 hours. Even if it looks good there may be some crap floating around in there from the factory.
I think the real answer is "it depends." There are some guys that change the oil after the first ride.
If you have some sort of warranty then change the oil every X hours (20, I believe) per your owner's manual. And keep your receipts for the oil and filters. That way if something goes wrong you can file your claim.
i changed my oil after the first 10 hours. and i have kept changing it every 20 hours since then

+1
you can't go wrong by changing the oil more often than the manual states.

I change my oil every weekend just to be safe. However , I'm way beyond 20hrs before the end of the weekend if I start on Friday.
