Title: Official Trail Riding Raptor Rally Thread
Post by: funyun on January 09, 2010, 04:35:32 PM
We need to get some kind of Trail type raptor rally going this year. Hopefully somewhere in the midwest since it seems like all the dunes and other places are out west. I was looking around and I think we should look into the Hatfield-McCoy Trail system. Post below with any other ideas and maybe we can get something official started!  :nana:

Hey Funyun,
I like your idea of a trail ride rally. Here is a list of places here in Missouri that one of the guy (lotuseater) had put together. I go to St. Joe State Park with the kids alot and its a decent place to ride. Have been to Fingerlakes but its been yrs since last been. Plan on going to LeerJak this year to check it out, I have talked to the guy that runs it and he's a really nice guy. I would like to go Hatfield-McCoys sometime but I wouldn't be able to make it this year.

Gunz I see why your liking Chadwick:
Every ATV must be equipped with:
1.An adequate muffler system and a Forest Service approved spark arrester.
2.A good operating brake system.
3.A slow moving equipment emblem mounted on the rear of the ATV   :nod:at least two feet above the roadway. (LMAO)
4.A safety flag attached to the rear of the vehicle extending at least seven feet above the ground.
5.Lighted headlamp and tail lamp.

I live in Missouri, just went to chadwick recently this year, was freakin awesome, i brought all that crap that it says u need...thats all for riding on the public highways is what i found out. No one ever chekced my rappy, nor did i ever see any one to check anything.  I ran the whole day without flag, sign or sparky. I didnt even see one quad with a flag or sign, and there was alot of quads there.

Chadwick is sectioned off like a ski resort, it has signs green=easy blue=medium black=hard

You get a map when u pay. Without the map, one would probably just get lost in minuits. We spent the whole day there last time, and only rode half the trails available.

Only thing i would say is necessary is stock clearance and swinger skid. Lots of Rocky climbs and decents, the harder the trail u pick the rockier and steeper it gets.

Dont forget to throw Land Between the Lakes up there. It can get pretty sporty once you're off the main trails but I love racing around pissing off the Jeeps and Utvs.

I'm game for whenever. If it happens too soon, i could ride the 400ex (meh).

Are they even open this time of year?
If we wanted to set a date, when would be best for all?

Maybe do a pole?

Chadwick is great, and i would almost def. be able to make it to that.

Hatfeild and McCoy would be an awesome destination, i plan on going some time. Dont know much about it though, just assume it must be awesome from all the hipe.

Remember we have a rally in May (last week) and Oct(first week). I know the temps around MO during March and April are nice. Really all you got to do is tell me which weekend and I'm 100% there. I've seen Chadwick on TV before and I have a few friends that go from here in OKC, so it's gotta be worth a rally. Plus all the local MO boys that came to LS Rally would probably be up for it. Let me see if I can get ahold of a couple of them. Mo Raptor 700....whats up?

Hey Gunz,
I think trail ride rally would be cool. I'm up for it. I personally think you should try to get ahold of Chris or Jessie as they live fairly close the Chadwick area and maybe they can orginize something with the people at Chadwick once we set a date. I would be willing to help but I live over here below St. Louis. Like I said I up for it and waiting to try out that new found power of the raptor. Matter of fact gunny I what to race your a**!!!  The only thing I would like to see is some warmer weather as it would possible be fairly muddy there. Just let me know when and I'll be there.

Chadwick is about 50 miles from my house i would say i prob went there about 50 times last summer fun place to ride has rough trails but you just gotta stay away from the black diamonds.  And all you have to have there to ride is a pass you get at the gas station and a helment no flag or any of that junk.  Let me know i would down for any weekend anytime..

I got to where i only wanted to ride the blacks. Bike was pretty tore up afterwards, had to zip tie my A-arm skid back on, and the swinger skid was bent to where the chain was wearing the nylon on the guard, but i was having way to much fun to care.

any other things we should know? I am actually just hearing about this place. Camping, hotels, eating, sound levels... etc etc etc this sorta trip seems somewhat doable if I get somebody to split gas. ;)

Well there is camp grounds but at the end of the year last year they were doing a remodel and i dont know if there finished yet. No limits on sound levels.  Hotels and any place to eat is about 20 miles away in Ozark, MO

I went  last september 5th. The on site Camp grounds were open as far as i could tell when i rode past them, and they were pretty big sites too. So if we wanted to go that route it would work, but dont know if it would be too cold to camp when we decide on a date.

Cool report back to us and lets see if we can get the ball rolling on this.. If we end up going to Chadwick, we're going to end up counting on you, firemann32, and TonytheTiger to be the ringmasters. I'll through up a poll that we can vote on to get the dates narrowed down.

Holy cow you guys are serious about Chadwick?  That place will beat the hell out of you and your machine.  You better be running full skids and atleast 20"s if not 22"s in the rear.  The trail markings are hardly correct (most trails are hard even if they are marked green and it can get pretty gnarly especially if its been raining

I'd like to find some other places close by to ride besides Chadwick. I'm curious if anyone has any Cloud 9 feedback.

You might be right, I've been down there 4 times and everytime has been crazy rough but we did seem to hit alot of the "moderate" trails and only one black....
