I just brought my raptor to the local shop to get piece of the engine welded (if you guys remember the thread on the "other forum" about breaking the case) because the JB weld didnt hold.
the guy said if it is magnesium he cant do anything, but if it is aluminiam he can fix it.
Im pretty sure it is cast aluminiam, but what do you guys know?

Well im preaty sure magnesium is expensive as hell. So my guess is aluminiam.
The engines are made of aluminum.

I would recommend contacting Yamaha directly and asking them, thats the only way your going to know for sure. ;)
i thought they were made of a concrete/lead alloy? :help:

I pulled the engine out of my 350 a couple of days ago to put a wiseco in and its heavy as hell, it would have snapped the pressboard that i put it on, but i reinforced it with a street sign :batman:

Its really not that hard to weld a case if you can weld aluminum, just some of the angles are tricky inside the case.
the clutch cover and top of the engine on the yfz is magneisum :grin_nod:
and the cylinder is nikasil plated (sp?)
