Title: Overflow bottle not staying level????
Post by: crazy Z on December 27, 2009, 09:47:02 AM
In September, I replaced the cam (Stage 2 Hotcam), piston (11.1 CP) and had the head ported (Rossier Engrg). I used cometic gaskets and torqued everything properly. The engine now has 5 hours on it plus the 30 minutes of dyno time and the 30 minutes of break in time.

Basically my problem is this. We went riding a week ago and my buddy told me that my overflow bottle was full. I took it back to his house and started messing around and got the overflow bottle to level out. The problem started when the hour meter said 4.0.

I am pretty sure it is not the head gasket. There is no coolant dripping out anywhere and there is no coolant in the oil. I plan on draining the coolant per the service manual and refilling it?

I am thinking that it is just a nasty air bubble in the system.

Give me your thoughts

Thanks in advance

Most common head gasket failure on the 700s do not show leakage around the head or in the oil, it shows in the overflow bottle. Do a 5th gear WOT pass somewere that you can glance down at the bottle and see if you get bubbles in it. The Cometic gasket is very unforgiving and since you are std bore Id go back with the better Yamaha gasket.
