Title: PCIII or PCV ?
Post by: vreds on October 09, 2009, 03:29:35 PM
I don't have any fuel controler, but would like to buy one. Which one would you consider ? Would it help to have one of these on a stock rappy ? ( mod's later ... )

If you're buying new, just get the PC5 as it is the same price as the PC3 and has more features plus you don't need to carry a 9v adapter anymore...Otherwise if you find a good deal on a PC3, don't think twice on it, a lot of draggers and high HP machines are still running a PC3 cause it is usually reliable and easy

best benefit is the pc5 has auto tune capabilites.  Once you start modding it will be worth its weight in gold unless you have alot of dynos near you to get retuned after every upgrade for the pc3. JMO
There isn't a dyno anywhere near me so I just run maps that are close on my pc3 but I had a pc5 it could tune the maps for me.  A tuned 65hp raptor can be beat an poorly tuned 70hp raptor all day long.

Well, after reading this, it'll be a PC5

My only worry are that the dyno charge about 60$ per hour... how much time does it take to tune a raptor ?  ???

Or I can just take the base map that are on the net ? For now, I will only ride with no lid and an exhaust tip.

PCIII has my vote until the PCV has been fully figured out like the PCIII. The PCIII will eventually be fazed out in favor of the V but it will be a while. Besides, you got to have a computer for either.

the reason i say laptop for the pc5 is because it has no external buttons to bump up or down fuel settings like the pc3 does.

I switched from the pc3 to pc5 with autotune, because we have no dyno shops that are worth a shit around here. It was a change for the better in my opinion.Without the autotune its probably no better than the pc3. however i can attest to the fact that it will acuratly tune itself with autotune. I took a map i had for my pc3 and put the numbers manually into the pc5 map screen, then set the air fuel ratio i wanted and went riding. after a few days of good riding you have to accept the trims and send it back to the pc5 and your done. If you dont accept the trims you are just running on the base map you put in it. Once you accept the trims it writes it to the map. JMO

They are phenominal, and worth every dollarinmy opinion. You figure 2 dyno trips and you could have your own on board dyno, so to speak  The other nice thing is they are tuning in real time on a constant basis. alot of people are hesitant on these because they are still new, once you actually get around a bike that has one or you buy one you will say why the hell did i wait so long to get this thing

From what I've seen this weekend (at the badass LS rally Dyno pull offs), was theat it didnt matter which PC you had, but the auto tune was a piece of shit. Dynomike pulled the autotune off of one of our members bikes and he got an extra 26hp. Pulled it of another bike and they got an extra 10hp.

From what I see in the software. The PC-V have a built in map that set the target value for the air/fuel ratio for the autotune feature... So it analyse what would be good to have the said target fuel ratio.

If the target air-fuel ratio is 13/1 and the best for that position would be let's say 12/1 it explain a little bit the lost hp extra.

Maybe entering a better target a/f map for the autotune would be better ?
