how do you know if your screwed and need a new one? I got looking at mine and it has some pretty serious grooves on the chain side. I can get pics posted up if there needed so you can see and what is the best way to get the old bearings out? I've done an axle carrier bearings on buddies ds650 but that was almost 2 years ago we did it. So I"m a little foggy on what I need to do.
Pull those two big bolts out of the carrier first. 17mm I believe. ANd loosen and remove chain. Easy to just pull the front sprocket off. Or just use adjustment bolts in the rear of carrier. (mine were siezed, I had no choice but to pull sprocket.
Then...then the bitch!!!! Leave the wheel and hub on to do this. Parking brake if you got it:
Gotta have the giant crow foot wrench to pull axle nuts. (46mm?) Rocky mountain atv. Which are a muthaf**ka to get off. Between lock-tite, and rust, you will run out of profanity after doing that one. :lol: They come in two packs, because they bend and break occasionally.
Two people, one holding bike and brake, the other jumping on the wrench and big extension to break loose. And take the right side wheel/hub, brake caliper, and brake rotor hub off (should slide off of splines when axle nuts and hubs are off). After the nuts and hub are off, Pull the axle out from the left hand side. If you have to hammer it out, use a block of wood so you do not damage your splines on the axle.
Then the carrier comes out in two pieces one on each side. Inside, there is a spacer between the bearings. The axle slides through that.
Carrier should not be bad. But bearings might. It is not easy, but worth it to check, had a very bad experience at the dunes because I was lazy. Left the spare bearings at home in my toolbox. Had to buy a set down there, and fix in the sand. :(

Oh, after you pull the carrier apart, bearings will be stuck in there... On either side of that big spacer tube. If you did any water riding, (like me), they will most likely have to by pried, and/or chiseled out. Make sure you clean that area really good with a wire brush, so you can put the new ones in there nice and snug..
Put them in there with the seals that come with the bearings. Should be around $30. I still have a set of bearings... for less. And front ones too. Want 'em?

i've got the bearings i had to actually order a new spacer to separate the bearings because the other one was had were the bearings spun around it and grooved it up pretty good. i guess I"m gonna have to beat the piss out of the carrier because that is the only part left to come apart which i've done my share of water passes and snow treks with the raptor. i'm having this sinking feeling i'm gonna need a new carrier tho

after those 2 bolts come out, it shouldn't be that bad. carrier comes out in two pieces, not much to it. the only way the carrier is bad, is if the bearings spun inside it. hope not.

If you haven't got the bearings out yet. Put the carrier in your freezer or fridge for a while. get it nice and cold. then heat up the carrier itself. it should expand enough leaving room for the bearings to slide out. :thumbs:
sorry I've been mia been working on my cars so I have vehicles to get back and forth to work for the winter. now that they are almost done and I pretty much missed the whole riding season I can start to spend some time on the raptor plus lack of money this year for the needed stuff to repair everything I've needed to repair this year.. Horrible year for vehicles!! I do have pics of the inside of the carrier it is still in the swing arm.
They look like they are in need of replacing.
What ones do you guys recommend and what is a reasonably priced one?
