Title: Raptor 660 mods, pics and discussion...
Post by: SKT on July 25, 2009, 09:29:55 PM
Greetings fellow Raptor owners,

We all know that the Raptor 660's were narrow, top heavy, factory restricted machines, and that most Raptor owners make plenty of mods to theirs. So let's see different set-ups, and mods that are being done.

I have a couple questions concerning suspension set-ups...

I have a 2002 660, with factory shocks, a +2(?) G-force axle inwhich I would like to set-up a trick MX stance...but after looking at the prices, have decided that I would rather continue to be married, as opposed to spending $2,000-$3,000 on shocks, A-arms, and brake lines for yet another toy!

Are there any companies that make quality A-arms, and shocks that has good sales, prices, or a ding/dent/scratched section?

Also, who makes the type of A-arms that "flare/straighten" out just inside the front tires? Would these be good for trails, and some track riding?

Additionally, what is the advantage of replacing the steering stem?

Thanks!

I think you are talking about "gullwing" shape for a-arms?  If so... here is a link to a thread I started back when I still had my 660.

ASR +3 long travel. Caliraptor used these to race baja. Will have to be lucky to find shocks at a good price. Elka will be the way to go on the 660.

Steering stem replacement not a huge deal. Vibration damping, weight saving, and making handle bars higher.

Welcome to the site.

OOOOOHHHHH !!! OOOOOHHHH !!!! I GOT THIS ONE !!!!

Check out http://www.jdperformance.net/ This guy makes some of the nicest a-arm setups I've seen and at reasonable prices. He'll custom make whatever you want, call and talk to Dave. Talk to him a few minutes and he'll blow your mind with some stuff. One of my buddies on another forum has some SICK Max ground clearance stardard travel shock Arms that were custom built for him and they're REDICULOUS, I can't wait to get a set...That was his second set of arms from JD- the first were a nice LT setup, just swapped because these were better for where/what he rides. When I get my engine done, I'm calling Dave...

FYI, That first set is for sale $400 shipped. Used lower arms, but brand new uppers will be drop-shipped from JD performance, and new tie rods are included too. Good deal for $400 shipped, that's like $350+freight for some real nice strong arms...

Will only fit 700's though, sorry. Just thought I'd mention it...

Thanks to each of you for the responses/assistance!

Seg, much appreciated info you provided there. I think I will order a set of A-arms from jd performance, as they look like quality arms, are made in the US, and have great customer service...which is always a positive! Also, your buddy has one sharp looking quad there! Are those hiper wheels/beadlocks? I saw your Raptor build on moddedraptor.com, and I must say that you have one sweet quad too!

Peels, thanks for the old link that you posted, and caliraptor most def. has one built quad!

Randall, thanks for the greeting...it's nice to be aboard...as this is the most happening Raptor forum/quad website that I have found...if there are anyother good ones out there, please let me know!

From riding Harleys and offroading in built 4x4's, I understand the importance of tire pressure, and the fact that different terrain, speed(s), etc. all have a major factor as to the "proper air pressure", but having said that...the terrain I traverse in a days ride litterally includes all of the aforementioned variables. What would be an average pressure to run for a long day trip thru all kinds of terrain without having beadlocks (yet)?

No problem man. I'm jealous now, I want some JD arms  Damnit ! haha

Yeah, that's Jamie from MR.com, those are the hiper's indeed. Great lookin wheels. I've heard the customer service is great there, from a lot of people that weren't even customers yet...let us know what you end up ordering !

I run generally 3.5-4psi in my tires depending on the conditions. I think I run a lot lower than most, but I've never dropped a bead...
