Title: shelf life of parts???
Post by: Warren on July 11, 2009, 09:13:31 AM
ok since i'm doing my engine build this winter i'm buying all my parts through this summer. i already have a +5 stroker crank, RJ cam, and a piston on it's way. i'm just wondering if all this stuff will be fine sitting in my closet until i'm ready to install? i still need to get +2 valves and bee hive springs but i'm worried about the parts that are steel. i don't want them to start rusting or anything. my crankshaft will be ok i know because it's covered in oil. i'm wondering if maybe i should put a thin coat of oil on my other steel parts. or do you guys think they will be ok for the next 4-5 months in my closet?

I've had my stock piston sitting on my desk for over two years now. No signs of rust on the rings or the wrist pin.
