Title: DMC & FCI w/ box problems
Post by: MAN on April 29, 2009, 09:06:28 PM
I just wanted to put this out there for everyone. I'm trying to put my bike back together tonight and I ran into a problem. The Force 4's will not clear the FCI box on the right side without modifications. I talked to Steve at TQS and he told me to take a heat gun to the box. I guess I need to bend it in so the pipe will clear. From my pic's you can see it will be a lot of reforming to the box to get the DMC to clear. The FCI intake has been the biggest pain in the  to install. For the money this should be a LOT better kit than it is!! I hope it makes HP because that's about all it has going for it!

In the first pic, I have the head pipe pulled over a good bit just to get the pipe started. There is no way it will go all the way on like this.

I feel your pain because I went through the same crap. I heated the crap out of the box and it still was not enough. I ended up running the quad to heat the box and smashing it with a 2 x 4. All in all and tons of cussing I just ran it and let the box melt,  it.

I'm going to take the heat gun to it tomorrow. If I can bend the box in enough where it's not touching the pipe I'll be OK with it. Then I can use some header wrap for that spot on the pipe and it should be good to go. I hope the heat gun works.

i hate to tell you this man but i don't think you will be able to get the filter on if you mold that section in to far. because my filter is pretty much right against that side of the box. if you want some pics of mine i could get them for you tomorrow night or saturday morning. let me know if you would like some pics.

After some work with the heat gun I got the pipe to clear pretty good. I put some DEI cool tape on the side of the the box. DEI claims it will handle up to 1500 degrees. Then I put some heat tape over that just to make sure the box is cool on that side.

Sure turned out nice!  Sucks that you had to put that extra effort into making it fit though.
