Title: Encounter with C6 ZR1
Post by: Danny T on April 02, 2009, 08:27:12 AM
Yesterday i was strolling along in my lil ol' G37 in royal oak (nicer area near detroit) where lots of motorcycles and nice cars usually come through (home of the dream cruise near woodward.)

anyhow i see a C6 and think nothing of it, plain silver in color thinking yea nice car youve seen one you have seen them all.... then i notice wow this vette has some really wide tires, then i notice wow those are some hella large rotors on their. I ponder to my self, is it a Z06.(i don't know much about cars) so the only way i know if its a Z06 is those side vents near the doors, which this didn't have.

Then i seem some writing which of course its night time and i can't read.... ITS A FUC*ing ZR1... at this point my balls have floated into my stomach. I pull up along side this beauty, and he looks at me, i look at his CAR. i have a new respect for this man.... and havn't even met him! As the light turns green we both pause... HIM Wanting to race, me knowing he will smoke me. I don't go for it he slams the gas for 2 seconds and the sound out of the pipe was AMAZINGGGGGGGGGG.

the whole 20 minute ride home my girl only heard 1 thing...

ZR1 ZR1 ZR1

haha

They only make 2000 units per year.

The first year, half went to Europe.

They are extremely rare right now, and still bringing $10-20K over sticker.

I wonder how you keep the rear end stuck to the ground with that much power.

Yes.

The wheels BARELY fit over the massive Brembo brakes.

The rear wheels are the largest ever mounted on a production Corvette with 335/25 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires on ultra-light 20 in (510 mm) rims.

A bad ass traction control system and massive meat kissing the pavement.

The traction system on all Corvettes is very functional.  If the car didn't have it, it would be next to impossible to keep it in a straight line on the throttle.

Shelby motors makes some improvement packages to the gt500, I wonder if one of them has bigger tires.

2 door coupe, not a sports car.
The weight distribution alone make a makor diffrence for the vette too.  (IE transmission is attached/part of the rear axle, wheras the mustang has a normal engine, tranny, drive shaft, differential setup)

Wagon axle on the Mustang doesn't help. The Mustang is a two ton car, and heavy as f*ck.

Another review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5mFRMGV-8w

See around 1:55 for the Mustang's launch. This Mustang is the GT500KR. More expensive than the standard GT500.

Figure a 12-15% loss from the crank.

Here's the only dyno I've found....

Blog: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/24/corvette-zr1-dynod-at-535-rwhp/2

Viper and ZR1 are worlds apart. One takes serious driving skill to keep it straight, the other uses traction control. One makes a little over 600 horsepower on ten cylinders, the other does on eight.

I'd lean heavily toward the ZR1 though.

Viper is a great car, but for me I'm just not comfortable in them. RK will counter this because he is comfortable aboard his dad's whip. I wish Viper would have offered traction control though....that would have really helped to control the car.

It's not that bad behind the wheel, but you have to get out to push the button at a Sonic.

its actually pretty managable without it. although alot of 1,000hp + vipers have traction control systems (aftermarket) installed. i think its a pretty comfy ride though. the seat bolsters are alot more agressive then the vette though.

Love the vette motor and the tech in the motor...      And I am not a vette fan at all...    Not really a viper fan either..

I will take a GT.   Yes I know the price is crazy and you get better bang for the buck in the vette, but hey it is my lotto money(dream).

I do like how the vette exhaust comes alive when you go WFO.

True, but the Corvette's suspension makes up for the need of a huge seat. Most of the people 've given rides to have never drove or rode in a Corvette. Everytime someone who has never been in a new C6 gets in my car, they always are amazed how comfortable the ride is.
