Title: Newest addition to the family!
Post by: NCHKustoms on February 26, 2009, 12:34:47 PM
So in the begining of January.. me and randy went to montana... bad idea.. 1700+ miles round trip.. left friday night.. came back saturday night... 27 hrs of straight driving with only 15 minutes of total stopping time on the way there. about 30 minutes stopped when we got there. and maybe 15 minutes again on the way back.. lets just say the trip was horribly long. I was told this sled needed tuning of the carbs... got it home.. tried to figure the carbs out for about a week.. decided to take er in. well about in february.. we finally got it fugures out it was a bad crank about 40 degrees off. that was after carbs cleaning, new coils. and looots of tuning.. adjusting timing.. ect. so i buy a new bottom end.. had a big bearing kit.. got the engine put back together. tried to put clutch on.. wouldnt fit.. the bearing kit made me have to get the clutch machined. finally got the clutch put on.. weights were off, since it was from montana.. re-weghted it.. still nothing..
had to then take apart the secondary clutch.. adjusted that.. well.. all together i have about 2000 into my 750$ sled orriginally.. damn.. sux..
its pretty clean for its age..
slp triple pipes
144x2 track
simmons skis
drop & rolled chaincase
ekholm tunnel

So it had quite a few goodies put into it.. still costed a butt load though :(
here it is anyhow..

oh the garage is getting too full.. had to tip the 400 up so this tank can fit in there . lol

27 hours?

Holy shit.

Glad you got it running, but it's a bummer it cost $2000 more.

If you guys need some trails to ride with 18" of snow on the ground, you need to head to central WI.   And if you need a place to crash, let me know.

Haha! umm i tried... it seems to have some carb issues. Hit the gas, goes good for a second or two, then falls on its face. Brought it back to the guy who worked on it and hope to have it this week again. Next plan after that is to sell it. Hopefully make a little $$ on it. OR try to break even :P well see.

Does the 20 hr drive seem worth it now?    sorry, can't help it.

Sounds like the main jets could be off. Your throttle response from idle to almost half throttle are controlled via the pilot jets, and the main controls the rest. Did you guys rejet it after bringing it back from Montana?

If you have not changed the jetting, I would start there first.

Bozeman, MT elevation = 4810 feet ASL.

Minneapolis-St. Paul elevation = 840 feet ASL.

I know you live north of Randy, but I don't know what city. Little Canada's elevation is 982 ft ASL.

Yeah we re-jetted it. I know we did the mains for sure, started with 210's and bumped that up to 290's. Not sure about the pilots.. that may be the issue, im gonna stop there tomarow, ill have to ask him if he switched em or not.

AND no... the drive is definatly NOT worth it. Ill know for next time to NEVER do that ever again. I would also NOT recommend others to do that also... unless of course your CRAZY!   :D

Way to go on the elevations too.. really on top of ur game arent you  :grin_nod:  Well im still in Braham MN also.. dont know the elavation. Do you?
