Title: 727 Stage 1 Cam?
Post by: bustedplastic on February 12, 2009, 09:49:23 AM
So I just got my raptor back together, and here's what I am running.  727 BB (had to bore and replate due to damage), 10.75:1 cp piston, GYTR slip-on, PCIII, and 15t sprocket.   I keep the foam filter and airbox lid on because I go through a lot of water and also ride in very dusty conditions.  I had it out on the ice last weekend and the the pulls hard compared to what it did before, but im wondering if a cam would help the situation even more.  I was looking at the stage 1 hotcam for my setup...

I think a stage 2 would fit your build nicely, and you may want to consider a set of duals now that you have gone into the engine.

I would say a Stage 1 Cam you won't see much benefit.
Most people you will see are doing the Hot Cam Stage 2, you will (especially with the 727) will see best results out of a little bit bigger cam for the same price. And you can even run the stock springs still.

Thanks for the input guys.  Are there clearance issues with the stage 2 at all, or do the valves just need to be adjusted?  We adjusted them when we put the motor back together, but would they need to be readjusted for the new cam?

Yeah, I'd recommend re-clearancing the valves. It's a simple process especially since you'll be right there anyways.

I did, havent installed it yet though.  No hurry now since the trails are all closed, the ice is melting, and I have no private land to run around on  :(

I have my room mate filling in a gouge on the left pipe, i dont know if the chain did it but it's really thin right there now and hes going to weld a small patch over the spot so it wont punch through...

I suppose i could install the parts and run it down my street, but being as i live two houses down from the police department, i probably shouldnt do that...

Where do you ride up there?  You're not too far north of me.

we usually head up north

clark and jackson county trails, oconto county (pipeline) marinette county, are all trail systems, but they close for the spring thaw...  The nearest thing that will be open the first weekend of april is Dyracuse rec area.  There may be some other parks open, but they dont compare to the trails...

There's the cheese country trail south of where I am, but it's got a 30 mph speed limit and it's flat straight railroad grade...
