I'm "looking" at the idea of going with new paddles. I'm lost on what ones would be the way to go. I see the ever famous hauler, the hauler extreme and someone was saying something about an ultralight but I do not know who that is made by.
I run 22x11x8 Hualer 7 paddles. But you got way more HP, so I would think 21x10x8 Hualer 10 paddles would hook nicely. Also gonna depend on the sand. MI and CO sand is wetter than Socal/ID/UT sand.
Aaron
MI sand is sugar sand. It wasn't wet anywhere except for the drag strip last year.
Any reason you're thinking of gettin rid of the stars?
I was going to keep them for Jenee's quad. But I wanted to look at a better paddle for my set up. I just don't know which one.
I also see a skat-trak ripper for higher HP quads.
I sent an email to 07SERaptor (Kyle). He's rappy is ~equal to yours for power. I'll find out what he's running. My only concern is that you got about 100lbs on him, but he might have a good suggestion to adjust for that.
Aaron
I think it depends on what you're looking for.. I mean, if you're looking to go straight paddle.
Skat Traks are by far one of the leading brands out there.
RockyMountain Sells Haulers (a knock off of Skat trak haulers)
I think your best bet is the Extreme's because the regular Skat Haulers are made more for 350cc-450cc machines.

Thats what I was thinking. I like my sand stars but I do want to put the power to the ground. My only concern is the "duneability" of a straight paddle.
When I was at the silver lake rally last year, I had talked to quite a few people about their straight paddles and they didn't seem to have any issues. I know when I was looking into paddles just over a year ago, I heard people say that straight paddles were tough to turn but from what I witnessed, didn't seem like anyone really had any issues turning with them that I saw...
If I can find a cheap set of paddles (skats) I'll be buying them, but if not, I'll be rockin my sandstars :)

I'll talk to my friend out in cali when I'm there. Maybe he can hook me up with something shipped to my house.

I won't be there. ;) (down under remember)
I recently purchased mine from cycle sports in salem, or. They were not to bad on the price for the hauler extremes.

Did you purchase them/have them shipped or are they local to you?
I bought them in-store on my way down to florence. They will ship to you though.
Excellent. Thanks for the info ;)
No prob.
I've never used anything but my Skat's, and even with stock front tires, I had no trouble turning. Maybe because there 20x10x10's instead of 8's? Don't know, but they work perfect for me.
I have ran just about every tire combination you can think of from 8-12 pdle Edge's to 8-12 pdl haulers to 8-12 pdl extremes, in both 20-10-10, and 22-11-8sizes, and what I found is if you like to race more then a 22-11-8 extreme in an 8 or 10 pdl works very well for a mid 60 hp bike. An 8-10 pdl Hauler works well on a 50+hp bike in a 20-10-10. the 8" wheel gives you a better "wrinkle wall" effect but you cant whip the ass around as well as a 10"wheel due to the flex of the sidewall. All of my tires are "tripple Buffs" or ultralight bead to bead buffed. I trail ride the hell out of them and just watch out for tree roots ect.... Skats are not cheap. My last set on 8" wheels cost 400 bucks. I have a set of douglas .125 8" rears if you need wheels. I also have a set of ITP C series wheels I have been thinking of getting rid of as they are way too heavy for my application and I ride sand only. You might try SMI in oregon. I dont have contact info but if you PM Sub454 or RaptorRandy on RF I think they can hook you up. Hope this is helpful for you

Nice write up Frank. Thanks.
I got a killer deal on a set of 20x10x10 8 paddle haulers. So I'll try those out, if thats not enough I might try the 10 paddle extremes.
Erich, do me a favor since I am testing out the venom piston for ya, you should have your sand stars shaved and tell me how it does. There is some guys over at ATVTECH.net that did that with great results.

I have a friend that really wants them, I'm not sure how he would feel about it. But if I can talk him into it this weekend we will do that and test it out when we are there for the rally.
I think an 8pdl hauler will work great for you! I like th way the 8's perform on my 686. Makes it really fun to dune yet it is still fairly competative at the hill
8 paddle haulers would scoot your big ass across the sand like crazy with the power your bike has.

Read up buddy. Either way I think I want to do it.

They shaved off 5 pounds per tire!!!
I want the dune/trail ability of the V-paddle and the grip of a stright paddle.

The Sandstars are a great tire for the recreational rider. When you get into knarly treeshots, or dragracing, just the reduced rotating mass of the Skat's make them worth the money, not to mention the increadible traction.

My buddy had stars on his Predator in Walden this weekend, I had Haulers. He could carve much better than me, but for hills or drag racing, the haulers rocked. :grin_nod:
