Title: Any difference in the 660 years??
Post by: zx10r203 on January 17, 2009, 01:08:57 PM
Ok my brother is in the market for a quad and wants a 700r but since his funds aren't where they need to be for a 700r he will be getting a 660, still a raptor so its all good.  Now I have a 700r so I know my years but don't know much on the 660's.

So is there a different on the 660's?

And what should I look for when buying a used 660??

I have owned both here is what I can tell you,The 01 second gear has three dogs and the newer 02 and up uses four dogs so the o 01s sometimes will tear up the dogs and slip out of gear also the rear shock res. is remote with a hose on the 01s and mounted on the shock like the 700s on the 02 and up the voltage regulator is on left side on the 01 and the rear tail lite area on the 02 and up I dont know but thier may be more ?

Don't buy an 01 unless there is irrefutable proof the trans was swapped or you can find one 600-800 dollars cheaper than an 02-05 in similar condition.

The 02-03 models were mechanically identical, they had transmission, subframe, rear shock, and some other changes from the 01 models.  There were some changes for 04 (flywheel/one-way, intake valves) and again in 05 (footpegs, parking brake) and some other odds and ends I'm forgetting.  But honestly there's no significant reason to buy an 05 over an 02 or vice versa, anything from 02-05 is on a level playing field.  Just find the best deal on the quad in the right condition for your needs.
